Amazon.com Product Description
Take your home theater experience to the next level with the 30-inch Sony KV-30XBR910 FD Trinitron HDTV monitor. This Sony WEGA set is capable of displaying amazingly clear 1080i high-definition broadcasts (when connected to a separate HDTV tuner). The Super Fine Pitch CRT, along with an electron gun and high intensity luminescent phosphor, improves image resolution, providing the highest picture quality reproduction from corner to corner. Other features includes a DVI-HDTV input, an antireflective coating that helps diminish ambient light, and a built-in Memory Stick slot the enables you to view a photo slideshow without having to hook up the camera with cumbersome cords.

The KV-30XBR910's Multi-Image Driver enables you to watch two programs side-by-side from two different sources (1080i, 720p, 480p, or 480i) simultaneously. It has four widescreen modes, including wide zoom (enlarges 4:3 aspect ratio while the upper and lower parts of the picture are condensed to fit 16:9 aspect ratio), normal (4:3 aspect ratio), full (enlarges the 4:3 picture horizontally only to fill the wide screen), and zoom (enlarges the 4:3 picture horizontally and vertically to an equal aspect ratio that fills the 16:9 screen).

It has a built-in 181-chanel NTSC tuner, and Sony's Digital Reality Creation (DRC) mode, which doubles vertical and horizontal lines, resulting in four times the density for such high-quality video sources as DVDs, satellite broadcast, and digital camcorders. You do need a separate HDTV tuner to receive high-definition broadcasts.

The KV-30XBR910 offers a good range of Sony video technology. The Cinemotion 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth, theaterlike experience at home. The 3D digital comb filter offers 10-bit signal processing that renders superb gradation of grays, resulting in superior picture detail.

This set features two 7.5-watt speakers that produce TruSurround SRS 3D audio and simulated surround sound. Two component-video inputs (both at the rear) allow you to connect an optional HDTV receiver or a source with component-video outputs. It also has 4 A/V inputs (1 front, 3 rear), 3 S-video inputs (1 front, 2 rear), 1 audio out (rear), 1 monitor (rear), and 1 DVI-HDTV interface (rear).

Tech Talk
Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Standard television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television will have either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, which is widescreen and appears rectangular, looking more like a movie screen and filling more of the viewer's field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience.

Scanning method: Frames of video are made up of many lines of video that are scanned onto a television screen so closely they appear to be a solid picture. The scanning method can be either interlaced or progressive. Interlaced scanning (also used in today's analog TV), indicated by an "i" in the video format, fills in the odd number lines (1,3,5,7...) and then fills in the even number lines (2,4,6,8...) until the frame is complete. Progressive scanning, "p," fills in each line consecutively until the frame is complete, like a computer display.

What's in the Box Sony KV-30XBR910 30-inch TV, remote control (RM-Y188), 2 AA batteries, and printed operating instructions.

Slim and powerful. View an interactive demonstration of the 6131.

Design
The 6131's super thin design houses an inner display that sports impressive 240 x 320 resolution and support for 16.7 million, yes million colors. Meanwhile, the outside cover of the handset features a supplementary, 128 x 160, 65,000-color display that can display picture IDs, time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The phone's camera unit is placed just above this display. Up and down buttons for volume control are placed on the left side and a camera control button is placed on the right. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. There's also an input to accept universal hands-free headsets, as well as USB and infrared ports for transferring data to and from the handset. The hot-swappable microSD/TransFlash memory expansion slot is compatible with cards with 2 GB of capacity.

Calling Features
The 6131 supports polyphonic ringtones, as well as video-based ringers so you can load your favorite video clips to alert you of incoming calls. Plus, with the phone's picture and ringer ID functions, you can assign pictures and ringtones to your most common callers. If you want to be discreet, there's also a vibrate ringer mode. Meanwhile, speaker-independent voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. The phone recognizes any voice, so you don't have to worry about pre-recording your commands. The 6131's phone book will keep track of all your contacts, and address book capacity is only limited by the phone's 11 MB of built-in memory. Lastly, there's an integrated speakerphone for talking hands-free. Lastly, the phone's Bluetooth connectivity means that your favorite Bluetooth headset is fully compatible.

Messaging, Internet and Tools
The 6131 is a mobile messaging and Internet powerhouse. With support for the MMS (multimedia messaging service), the phone can send picture and text messages, and when coupled with the phone's powerful camera, MMS opens up great opportunities for robust messaging. The phone ships with a built-in email client that supports POP3, IMAP, and SMTP protocols. You can even open and view email attachments.

Getting on the Internet is easy with the 6131. It supports the GPRS data protocol, as well as the high-speed EDGE wireless data service. When used with your carrier data plan and the phone's USB or Bluetooth data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs. The phone is bundled with a mobile Web browser, too. Meanwhile, T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit -- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

The 6131 supports PC synchronization via USB or Bluetooth, which means you can manage and synchronize contacts, calendar and other data with your PC. Nokia's PC Suite application makes this process a breeze. A number of handy software tools are bundled with the 6131 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator, a calendar, a to-do list, and an alarm clock.

Imaging and Entertainment
This is where the real fun begins. The 6131's 1-megapixel camera takes great pictures and it can also capture video. And when you've got all the pictures you want on your memory card, you can connect the camera directly to any PictBridge-compatible printer for instantaneous printing right from the phone. The phone supports playback of streaming video in 3GPP format, too.

If mobile music is your thing, you can load up your MP3, MP4, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, and WMA audio files and listen to your heart's content via the stereo headset jack. The 6131 also comes with a built-in stereo FM tuner so you can listen to your favorite stations wherever you roam. And don't forget about the games! The phone comes with a perennial favorite, Snake, as well as 3D soccer.

Vital Statistics
The Nokia 6131 weighs 3.95 ounces and measures 3.62 x 1.89 x 0.79 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.4 hours of digital talk time, and up to 240 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

5 out of 5 stars Good Little Phone.......2007-05-14

This is a good phone. Many of the complaints I read about the phone were true. The camera button is not really thought out being on the side. I have many pictures of my pocket. The volume adjustment is a little funky. But overall it's a great little phone.

Hope this helps.

4 out of 5 stars Great traveling companion.......2007-04-27

I bought this phone to use when I travel in Europe. I've been very pleased with my experience thus far. It's true that the device devours the battery - make sure you're prepared to charge it every night, or buy a second battery. My favorite feature of this phone is that you can set it to vibrate and ring at the same time - probably sucks up more of the battery life, but I'm less likely to miss a call this way. I wish my LG could do this!

This device comes with a UK-native plug and a US adapter.

5 out of 5 stars Great phone!.......2007-04-10

After using my previous cell phone for such a long time I knew it was going to be a challenge to find one that I would like. This phone does not disappoint. I sent back my Motorola slvr which I originally ordered and exchanged it for this one, no regrets.

First off the 'soft-touch' paint feels great in you hands and the leathery touch on the back helps you to grip the phone batter. It certainly does feel like better quality materials in your hands. The flip-to-open button works nice. I've never seen that on a phone before and it's damn handy.
The keypad is nice and big and it's so easy to dial and text. The nice big display screen helps with that too.

The menus and interface itself is great. It's simple and pleasant to use, which is the main reason I switched from the Motorola. Some of the options are unusually further down the list then most other phone menus but I got around that quick. Voice reception and signal are great and the ring volume and speaker are plenty loud enough.

The camera is a little grainy in low light, but otherwise fine, you can assign your images to you contacts or wallpaper. This phone is very customizable.

The camera button is on the outside and can be accidentally pushed, though to be honest you need to have a lot of stuff tightly packet in your pocket for that to happen. It hasn't happened to me yet. I haven't owned the phone long enough to say about the battery life yet, though I can see why it might drain some battery life with its mini-outer screen as well.

Overall this is a great phone. If you want a phone for its 'ease of use' then I would highly recommend it.

1 out of 5 stars Battery life a joke.......2007-04-03

My girlfriend bought a this phone 2 months ago, and from day one complained about the battery life. I thought she was exaggerating but she got so sick of it that she ditched it in favour of my older nokia. Just yesterday I decided I'd try out the 6131 for myself, because I'm partial to new gadgets.
I started the day on a fully charged battery. By 1pm, after a total of about 30/40 minutes of phone calls and about 5 or 6 SMS messages sent and received, along with about 10 minutes of playing Sudoku, the battery was showing as down to a quarter of its full life. I need my phone all day, so I promptly switched back to my Sony Ericsson K750i.

The *appalling* battery life of this phone renders it almost unusable as a day to day phone. I'm surprised this phone ever got released into production by Nokia. Generally I'm a Nokia fan- I like their user interfaces, although I am a bit less gone on their phone design in general. But this particular model is a failure in my opinion.

Other bugbears about the phone:

No micro SD card included as standard. Just seems a bit cheap to me.

Camera button on the side of the phone is easily activated when the phone is in your pocket, draining the battery even more quickly.

Non-intuitive interface at times, e.g. when sending messages you have to scroll down 3 items to access your contacts. Not a deal-breaker, but an annoying niggle not present on my last Nokia

Positive points:
Quite a nice clamshell design.

Easy to use, big keys
