Amazon.com Product Description
No, it's not as big as a real movie screen--but it will probably feel like it. Samsung's rear-projection HCN4727W offers a huge, 47-inch display in a widescreen format that's specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies. The set's dark-bezel, silver-gray cabinet makes it a great choice for stylish, big-screen entertainment in large rooms. And, when you're ready to take on the world of high-definition television, just add a HD satellite/off-air receiver or an HDTV tuner to enjoy full-quality digital HDTV broadcast programming--the set features a DVI-HDTV interface so you can establish a direct, premium-quality digital connection with your DTV receiver.

Whether your passion is for DVDs, sports, or movies, the HCN4727W delivers high performance and convenience. Three high-resolution, 7-inch liquid-cooled CRTs power Samsung's RealFlect System Pro, delivering highly focused illumination across the entire screen through incorporated features like HD Fine Focus lenses and a high-performance HD Fine Pitch lenticular screen with anti-glare protection. PerfectFocus digital auto-convergence gives you convenient picture focus at the push of a button. Samsung's Cinema Progressive Scan automatically upconverts all nondigital signals to a smooth, clear 720 lines of progressively scanned images.

An important element of Cinema Progressive Scan is 3:2 pulldown detection, which renders DVD movies in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Samsung's HD Fine Pitch screen further improves picture clarity, especially when viewing higher-definition video sources like DVD and HDTV. The fine-pitch, .52 mm screen brings out subtle image details otherwise unnoticeable on standard .72 mm pitch screens. Samsung's Auto PerfectFocus auto-convergence system corrects picture focus at the push of a button. All onscreen information and menus appear in translucent overlays, letting you view video programs in the background while you consult the setup menus.

A total of 10 video inputs handle more than most of the sets out there and includes the DVI input mentioned above, three composite-video and two high-definition component-video inputs, two S-video inputs, and two standard RF inputs (for VCRs and cable boxes).

The set's two-tuner picture-in-picture with stock-ticker modes lets you monitor up to 13 different channels simultaneously. Stock-ticker mode places the lower one-fifth of the screen of one channel into another channel so you can viewing streaming text beneath the program of your choice.

The 15-watt-per-channel stereo audio system benefits from BBE Sound with a five-band equalizer, which is designed to enhance the sound from movies and music programs alike. Sound Mode Preset gives you the best dynamic sound settings for whatever you're watching. Choose from standard, music, movie, speech, or custom.

What's in the Box
TV, remote control, two AAA batteries, and user's manual.

This update to the popular 6101 adds one great feature that many folks today can't live without: Bluetooth. With the 6103, now you can have the freedom of a wireless headset with this powerful, feature-packed phone -- features such as a VGA camera, a stereo FM radio, a speakerphone, EDGE high-speed data and a whole lot more. On top of all that, you get dual color displays and support for mobile email, making the 6103 a great companion for T-Mobile subscribers.

<small><b>A stylish mobile companion. View an interactive demonstration of the 6103.</b> <small></td></tr></table> <B>Design</B>
The 6103's inner LCD display sports 128 x 160 resolution and support for 65,000 colors. Meanwhile, the outside cover of the handset features a supplementary, 96 x 65, 4,000-color display that can display picture IDs, time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. The phone's VGA (640 x 480) camera unit is placed just above this display. Up and down buttons for volume control are placed on the left side, while most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. There's also an input to accept universal hands-free headsets, as well as USB and infrared ports for transferring data to and from the handset.

<B>Calling Features</B>
The 6103 supports polyphonic ringtones, as well as MP3-, MIDI-, AMR- and True Tones-based music ringers so you can program your favorite songs to alert you of incoming calls. A number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone and more ringtones can be downloaded from T-Mobile's t-zones service. Plus, with the phone's picture ID function, you can assign pictures to your most common callers. If you want to be discreet, there's also a vibrate ringer mode. Meanwhile, voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family and associates as easy as saying their names. The 6103's phone book will keep track of all your contacts, and address book capacity is only limited by the phone's 3.5 MB of built-in memory. There's also an integrated speakerphone for talking hands-free and, as mentioned, the phone's Bluetooth connectivity means that your favorite Bluetooth headset is fully compatible.

<B>Messaging, Internet and Tools</B>
The 6103 is built for powerful mobile messaging and Internet capabilities. With support for the MMS (multimedia messaging service), the phone can send picture, video and text messages (T-Mobile messaging charges apply). When coupled with the 6103's camera, MMS opens up great opportunities for robust messaging. Instant messaging is also supported, and the phone ships with a built-in email client that supports POP3 and IMAP protocols.

Getting on the Internet is easy with the 6103, as well. It supports the GPRS data protocol, as well T-Mobile's high-speed EDGE wireless data service. A built-in web browser makes it easy to purchase t-zones downloads and surf the wireless Web. T-Mobile's t-zones service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones and more. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

The 6103 also supports PC synchronization standards via USB or Bluetooth, which means you can manage and synchronize contacts, calendars and other data with your PC. Nokia's PC Suite application makes this process a breeze. Other tools include an alarm, a voice memo recorder, a calendar, and a to-do list.

<B>Imaging and Entertainment</B>
The 6103 is designed for flexible mobile fun. The built-in VGA camera, which features a night mode for better low-light shots, captures stills and video clips (video clips are captured at 128 x 96 resolution). Meanwhile, an integrated FM radio makes it easy to tune in your favorite stations. Picture effects and custom screensavers, as well as backgrounds and themes, can be set up to fit your personality. And don't forget that the 6103 is a powerful gaming companion with support for Java-based games. Many games are downloadable via the t-zones service.

<B>Vital Statistics</B>
The Nokia 6103 weighs 3.42 ounces and measures 3.35 x 1.77 x 0.94 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.5 hours of digital talk time, and up to 336 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/1800/1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

1 out of 5 stars My first bad phone.......2007-02-16

I "upgraded" from what I thought was an obsolete phone, the Motorola V300 which I bought several years ago. Long story short: I am resuscitating that Motorola - it was a better phone.

One of the worst features of this phone - messaging. After you text message someone and send it, the message stays in your text box, so that if you want to text a NEW person with a NEW message you have to manually delete the old message. No kidding. No way around it either.

That's just one example of the frustrations I've had. Things that should require one button depression to activate, often require three or four. The reception isn't great, the screen resolution isn't great. Its extremeley lightweight and feels cheap.

Scrolling through your phonebook is super slow.

My colleague, who also bought and hates this phone, pointed out how when someone is calling and you open it, you don't have the option to ignore, opening=answering, something she had more of a problem with than I did.

Get Motorola V300 instead - its great.

3 out of 5 stars its okayy.......2006-12-18

THE BIGGEST NEGATIVE:
if you are a picture or ring tone junky like i am, this is NOT the phone for you. the memory for backgrounds, ringtones, pictures, and videos is all in one section. if i have 3 ringtones, i can only have around 15 pictures saved with high quality. needless to say, THIS IS ANNOYING.
Because of this, I will probably switch back to my old Samsung E 315.

This phone does have a good battery life, and speakerphone.

4 out of 5 stars not bad, just want to hear the call waiting better.......2006-10-30

it took me almost the whole two week period after upgrading to be ok with keeping this phone. the reviews on this site were extremely helpful and accurate. I am seeing the issue that other reviewers have had about the peeling of the rubber layer on the phone. That started less than a month later but I do not keep the phone in a case at all. One of the biggest complaints that I have with the phone is the Bluetooth Nokia Headset that came with the phone...althought the concept is great and I enjoy that, I don't like the way it sits on my ear and I can never hear the call waiting beep. I haven't figured out a way to adjust the beep so that it is loud enought to hear when you are driving. I am sure I need to either call Nokia and ask them for a solution or just suck it up and buy a new headset but I am not ready to shell out the money for that yet after an already decent investement into the updgrade..... Other than that it works fairly well. It would be great tho if the to do list alarms would work if the phone was off like the alarm clock does.

4 out of 5 stars Can't find anything better than a Nokia..........2006-10-06

I have had 4 Nokia phones in the past and was looking for an upgrade on my 6010 that I've had for the last 3 years and was determined on getting something other than a Nokia this time around. After doing research on other phones, like Samsung and Motorola, I eventually bought another Nokia. I came pretty close to getting the Motorola RAZR, but the many negative reviews that I read combined with my brother-in-law saying that he would stay away from anything Motorola made me think twice about it. I have now had my 6103 for almost a month and I am happy with it. I haven't had any problems yet, such as scratching and breaking or any peeling of the rubber that other reviewers have mentioned. I have never had a flip phone before so durability was a concern. So far the only thing I have noticed is that the flip seems to get a little looser over time, likely from normal wear and tear.

Few minor gripes:
1) I can't seem to successfully transfer a small, 14KB mp3, wav or mid file to the phone to use as my own message alert tone. Not sure if this is a Nokia or T-Mobile issue. Using the Nokia PC Suite, I can actually transfer the file from my computer via the phone's infrared and it shows up on my phone. However, once I try to select the file in the phone it says that it cannot support the file format. I bought the CA-42 cable as an alternative and it is absolutely worthless. Please don't waste your money on this device. A part of it broke off in my phone but I was able to get it out. I haven't given up on figuring this out. If you know how to do this, please e-mail me.
2) I wish there was more memory on the phone. I can only keep about 8-10 HiFi Ringers on my phone without having to delete a few other things from it. Also, I can only record about 6 voice tags. Your limited in this area.
3) The phone doesn't come with many ringtones, which is why I contributed to T-Mobile's bottom line by downloading HiFi Ringers ($1.99 each) and MegaTones ($1.49) up the wazoo. I assume T-Mobile is to blame for this.

Things I like:
1) I do like the voice tags and they are really easy to set up and use and they have worked well for me so far. It would be nice to be able to set up much more than just 6 voice tags, though.
2) The phone is pretty easy to use and figure out right out of the box. There's a little bit of battery life to get you going for a while (at least from my experience buying it new).
3) It is small and fits nicely in the pocket.
4) Although the camera is not a substitute for the real thing, it works well and the pictures are okay, not too grainy or blurry. This is not what I bought the phone for, but is a bonus.
5) I like the functionality of the calendar, alarm clock, notepad, calculator, to-do list and stopwatch. An upgrade in this area from the 6010 and older Nokia models.
6) I like having an FM radio on it, but wish it also had AM for the sports junkie that I am. Again, not the reason I bought the phone, but is a nice feature. In general, I could see phones having satellite or HD radio on them in the near future.
7) Bluetooth capability. My Plantronics Voyager 510 works very well with this phone. It is easy to set up. No need to hope that all the planets are aligned to getting this sync'd.
8) Custom ring tones for groups or individuals. Like the earlier reviewer mentioned, if you want one person to have their own ringtone, you must set them up as their own group. Shouldn't been any gripes with this, though.
9) No problems with cell phone reception. This is more related to the cell phone carrier than the phone manufacturer.

I have given this phone 4 stars. While I think it is a great phone, it is not perfect. However, I don't see any other phones that compare and, depending on your cell phone needs, I would recommend the 6103.

Good luck with your research.

5 out of 5 stars Another really good Nokia phone, as expected........2006-09-26

I think Nokia makes great phones, very reliable and durable. My last phone was a Nokia 6610 that I had for 2.5 years! While my friends with Motorolas and Samsungs had to shell out another $200 every year because their phones would break..... If you've had a Nokia before, the menus/features are similar pretty much. This one has a few extras: camera/video and Bluetooth. Had the phone for 2 weeks. Here's what I've observed thus far:

1. Camera: takes good pictures, well you know, for a camera phone anyway

2. Bluetooth: I don't have a BT headset yet but I have used the Bluetooth (along with a Bluetooth USB adapter for my PC) to sync with my PC using Nokia PC Suite. This was very handy when it came time to switch my phone numbers from old phone to new one. As you may know, when you save numbers to a SIM card it only saves on 1:1 relationship, meaning only 1 phone number per name. Yes it is a pain to reorganize all your phone numbers for each contact name, however, its much easier to just do it on your PC.

3. Also - someone commented about in their review about pictures for contacts. You cannot utilize the full functionality of the phonebook if u r using SIM card only. You need to save the numbers into the phone memory directly. SIM card memory for numbers is really to be used when you r switching phones.

4. Data cable: I bought the CA-42 blue data cable. The phone recognizes it but it won't connect with the Nokia PC Suite software. Not sure if its the cable or the software, although the software is very low tech and temperamental.

5. Infrared IR port: again, I tried to connect my phone to PC using IR. My PC recognized the phone was there, but alas, the Nokia PC Suite software would not connect, the bast*rd.

6. Softkeys: this phone has 5 or 6 soft keys, meaning you can edit the keys to whichever menu function you want to use there. Someone previously posted that they couldn't make the phone go to Silent profile with the touch of a button. Well you can! It's not initially set up that way, but its very easy to do. Go to Settings, My shortcuts.

7. Megatones/hifi ringers: Yes this phone plays mp3s, midis, and such. BUT --------- I think T-Mobile set this phone up so that you have to PURCHASE their $1.99 ringers from the website!!! >:-(
The software is supposed to let you pick your own music then convert it to a format compatible with the phone, and then sync it. HOWEVER ------ I've tried several ways to make this work, or to email mp3 or midi files to myself on the phone, but the file never comes through correctly on the phone. That is such a ripoff. And by the way, I noticed this phone only came with like 4 built-in tones. Previous Nokia phones came with 8-10 tones. Hence, the scam I was talking about to get you to purchase ringtones.
So for now, I'm relegated to whatever choices they have on the site and spending my hard earned money and something simple like ringtones.
Suggestions on this anyone??

8. Volume: I can hear just fine, and people can hear me. The volume key is on the left side. If you can't hear, turn it up.

9. Dropped calls: Helloooo people! Dropped calls are not solely to blame on your cell phone. Most responsible is the wireless network, and whether your phone's software is up to date to pickup any new cell towers. I have not experienced any more or any less dropped calls than what I had before with this phone.

10. Black cover: I have not had a problem with it peeling off. I always keep mine in a cell phone cradle at home, or in the special cell phone pocket in my purse. No problems thus far.

Overall: still a fantastic phone, good battery, good looking, quality phone, good price. I highly recommend it.
