For a step up in price, the Compaq R3140US offers a faster 64-bit AMD processor and DVD burner.

The Basics

Hard Drive: The 60 GB EIDE hard drive is at the high end of the storage spectrum (with 80 GB being the current leader), and offers more than enough capacity for storing business applications and data for road warriors.
Processor: The 1.6 GHz Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor is designed to extend system battery life using AMD's proprietary PowerNow! technology, as well as support a wide range of wireless LAN standards--including 802.11g (54g)--and Bluetooth connectivity. It also features a 256 KB L2 cache.
Memory: The R3120US comes with a 512 MB built-in memory (2 x 256 MB modules, DDR SDRAM, 333 MHz)--a good start for power users. However, only one slot is accessible for upgrading; it has a maximum RAM capacity of 1280 MB (1 x 256 MB, 1 x 1024 MB).
