Product Description
While the Graphite isn't technically a new color for the iBook, note the new snow accents on all of the new models. Except this snow is polished smooth and glossy - almost like it's dripping wet. A minor detail? Perhaps. But it's part of the sensory experience of using an iBook. The iBook Special Edition has a built-in feature designed to help make it the life of the party, and that's DVD. So you and your friends can slip the latest DVD title into the DVD-ROM drive and watch it on a brilliant display - or on your TV. Looking for Pentium-crushing speed? You've found it with the iBook Special Edition Graphite. In performance tests running processor-intensive applications like Macromedia Director and Adobe Photoshop, the new iBook soundly whipped the competition.

Blending affordability with productivity power, the HP Pavilion dv5215us notebook PC is a great choice for both business road warriors and multimedia enthusiasts on the go. The 15.4-inch high-definition BrightView display looks good even in direct sunlight, and movies and games will look clear thanks to the ATI Radeon XPress 200 video/graphics card (with 128 MB of shared memory). Enjoy movies or music in seconds with the external DVD or music buttons to launch HP QuickPlay (which bypasses the boot process). Control playback settings from up to 10 feet away with the included HP remote, then store it conveniently in the PC card slot. Easily manage your digital photo library and share with friends and family using the included HP Photosmart Premier software. And you'll stay productive with the 1.8 GHz AMD Turion 64 ML-34 processor, which is ready to tackle tomorrow's powerful 64-bit applications. This notebook also features an 80 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (2 GB maximum), built-in 54g wireless connectivity with 125 HSM/Speedbooster support, multi-format/dual-layer DVD+/-RW drive (which also burns CDs), both ExpressCard and PC card slots, and Windows XP Home edition. This laptop is also ready for the next iteration of Microsoft operating system--Windows Vista.
The Basics

Hard Drive: The 80 GB hard drive (4200 RPM) is becoming average in size for notebook PCs, and it's roomy enough to store business productivity applications, all your important documents and presentations, and a good-sized digital audio and video library.
Processor: Combining strong performance with efficient usage of power, the 1.8 GHz AMD Turion 64 ML-34 is uniquely optimized to power today's thinnest notebooks. It's also built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. It includes such AMD technology features as HyperTransport (which increases the communication between integrated circuits), PowerNow! (which enables longer battery life and reduced heat generation), and Enhanced Virus Protection (which works with Windows XP Service Pack 2 to better withstand attacks from certain classes of viruses). It also features a 1 MB L2 cache and up to 1600 MHz front-side bus (FSB). (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)
Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (PC2700, 333 MHz) is a good start for power users, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and productivity suites. It has a 2 GB maximum RAM capacity.
CD/DVD Drive: Offering the latest in DVD writing technology, the multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.
Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 101-key keyboard and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad. It also includes two quick-launch buttons (HP QuickPlay Music and DVD).
Screen, Graphics and Sound
You'll enjoy razor-sharp graphics and widescreen movies with the 15.4-inch WXGA high-definition screen, which displays an 18 percent larger picture than standard 15-inch screens and offers up to an 18 percent improvement in contrast ratio. It has a widescreen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels--perfect for watching DVD movies the way they were meant to be seen. Video is powered by the ATI Radeon XPress 200M IGP video/graphics card, which delivers good, though not high-end, 3-D graphics. It provides 128 MB of dedicated video RAM. ATI's HyperMemory technology allows the chipset to run in either Unified Memory Architecture (UMA) mode or with dedicated frame buffer memory to enhance graphics performance. The integrated audio card (Realtek ALC250) provides 16-bit stereo sound via the built-in stereo Altec Lansing speakers.
Connectivity and Expansion Slots
This notebook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that's fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. The 125 HSM/SpeedBooster support will enable it to be ready for tomorrow's 125 Mbps wireless LANs. In addition to a more traditional PC card slot, it also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot, which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a very basic offering of connectivity options (which does not include FireWire):

2 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
1 VGA monitor port
1 S-Video port for connecting to a TV
1 ExpressCard/54 slot (also supports ExpressCard/34)
1 PCMCIA (PC card) slot, Type I/II 32-bit card bus (also supports 16-bit)
1 headphone out
1 microphone in
1 IR receiver
1 notebook expansion port 2
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).
Preloaded System and Software
This system comes with the Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 operating system with Advanced Security Technologies, which helps to reduce unwanted downloads and pop-ups while surfing the Web. It also comes preloaded with Microsoft Works (for working with word processing and spreadsheet documents), Symantec Norton Internet Security 2006 (with 60 days of LiveUpdate), Adobe Acrobat Reader, Sonic Digital Media Plus, Vongo, Muvee autoProducer, Microsoft Money, MSN Encarta Plus, Microsoft Office Student and Teacher Edition (60 Day Trial Version), and HP PhotoSmart Premier for editing and organizing your digital photos.
Dimensions and Weight
This notebook measures 14.1 x 10.4 x 1.77 inches and weighs 6.5 pounds.
Power
It's powered by a 6-cell rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which has a battery life of up to 3 hours (depending on usage). You'll get up to 8 hours of battery life with the optional 12-cell lithium-ion battery.

Customer Reviews:
Very Solid.......2007-02-18
This is a great laptop. I'm not the biggest expert on computers, so I had someone at circuit city help me out in finding a good laptop at an affordable price, and he recommended me to buy this one. So far so good, I've had no regrets. It has a lot of great features, and I got it for a very decent price.
Pros: Nice Screen, Good Sound, Great Processor, Good Speed, Lightscribe, Windows XP Media Edition.
Cons: Battery Life, A little on the heavy side. (Although it's not such a big problem for me.)
Overall: Very reliable laptop, which I recommend.
Good laptop...... hardware reliability issue?.......2006-10-15
I bought this laptop 2 months ago and found that it has had no problem processing whatever I throw at it. However, the DVD drive has now stopped working unless I physicaly hold it firmly shut, not good. I wonder if this is a common fault????
Sweet Machine.......2006-08-31
Bought this for Gaming and Watching movies while on travel. So far so good.
Pros: 1600mHz BUS, Big hard drive, 80 Gig Memory. Excellent graphics and definition, fast processor (one of the best on the market, 128MB Dedicated (not shared) graphics.
Cons:I noticed that while playing "HALO" I had to adjust the settings to keep a smooth game (Game options), but once I found the sweet spot, it runs very well. Considering upgrading the graphics card memory to 256 MB to boost game speed, but only as a luxary (not needed to still enjoy system). Also noticed that the keys stick if you hold them down too long during game play, but stop if you double tap the key. Considering buying a joystick to avoid this.
Stock battery only provides about 2 hours continuous use. Seems to be a standard issue problem these days though.
Great machine for the price. Found a $200 mail in rebate at Circuit City, bottom line price of $700 after rebate.
