5 out of 5 stars Great buy.......2007-05-13

I bought a custom laptop through HP, but it's very similar to what Amazon is selling here. Here are my specs:
# Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit)
# AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-56(1.8GHz/1MB)
# 15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
# NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 6150 w/Productivity Ports
# HP Imprint Finish + Microphone
# 40% off upgrade from 1GB (2 Dimm) to 2GB (2 Dimm)!
# 80GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
# FREE Upgrade: 8X DVD+/-R/RW w/Double Layer Support
# 802.11b/g WLAN
# 12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

Overall I think it was a great buy. It only cost approx $900, which is relatively cheap for a laptop. Here are my two cents:

Pros:
+Nice, crisp 15.4 inch screen
+Dual processor (though I can't say I am an expert on this issue personally, I have read from many sources that a single processor will be obsolete soon.) I do often multi-task, and have several applications open a the same time, and I don't see my laptop slowing down.
+2GB Ram - sure, that adds $100 to the price, but I would still recommend going with it. If you're going to invest in a laptop, you might aswell put in a little extra $$ to get the better technology.
+100 GB HD. I have 80 GB, and I have it partioned for Windows/Program, Downloads, and my music, and everything works great. I even accidentally put Windows on my 'E' partition (which you usually aren't recommended to do, as it should be on 'C') and everything works fine.
+Nvdia GeForce graphics card - great! I didn't get the 7200 (instead I only got the 6100, with productivity ports) but it works great! I've played several games (Counter Strike Condition Zero, GTA Vice City, Need for Speed Carbon) and they'll all worked without problem. I did however have some problems with Half Life 2 Episode 1, as the video was jerky, making it unplayable.
+DVD burner - always a plus. If you want to back up your hard drive, or burn some movies, etc. this is the way to go.
+Integrated wireless works great.
+VERY QUIET! Incredibly quiet. The fan only occasionally turns on high for a bit, but overall the laptop is very quiet.
+12 cell battery. Greater battery life! Also, the 12 cell battery sticks out from under your laptop, however, only about an inch. It's actually nice because it puts your keyboard at a slight angle (when on a flat surface, making it easier to type), and I also use the battery whenever I carry the laptop without a case.

Cons:
-I must start with Windows Vista! Fortunately this particular model that Amazon has, comes with Windows XP home. However, HP ships all their computers with Vista. You probably have read reviews online about Vista. Yes, they are all true. I would HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND you keep Vista on your laptop. Unless you are looking for an OS that looks really pretty, is very memory intensive, doesn't have many more features from XP, and is incompatible with all of your "old" software, only then would I recommend getting Vista. My laptop came with Vista, and at first I thought it was neat and cool, but after one day of trouble trying to install all of my "old" programs, I was fed up, and "downgraded" to Windows XP Professional (which has been a great decision!).
-Quick launch buttons - they're a row of buttons above your keyboard, with media shortcuts to pause, rewind, fast forward, volume control, etc. I guess they're ok, but it's sorta annoying because when you press them, they beep, and there's nothing you can do about them. Not a big annoyance, and this shouldn't keep you from buying this laptop.
-HP Imprint Finish - I'm not sure what comes with this model, but my model came with HP Imprint Finish. Sure, it looks nice, but its basically just a cell phone coating on the outside of your computer. That being said, it is a fingerprint magnet! No big deal, but be prepared to wipe them off constantly, with the included rag.
-Hot spot. There are a two hot spots on the keyboard, to both sides of the mouse. I wouldn't say they are hot per say, but just warm. It's no big deal.
-Kensington lock. It's oddly placed on the left side of the monitor. First, make sure that the lock you get is for the left side (or you'll be reading your combination upside down). Second, it seems kinds weird to have a lock on the monitor part. I would have preferred it to be on the actual base of the computer.

In conclusion, this is a great buy, and I would highly recommend anybody looking for a good laptop for under $1000 to look at this model.

4 out of 5 stars Happy Customer - Great Product.......2007-01-26

I got my DV2000T a few weeks ago, and I really like it. I have owned Toshiba, Dell, and Compaq laptops. I bought it because I was looking for a light-weight replacement to a desktop that I could take everywhere, on which I could work with Adobe/Macromedia products, watch movies, normal Office stuff, and surf. It has been a great machine. The screen is the best I've ever had. It seems very well-built, although I haven't traveled a bunch with it yet. The keys are a bit noisy as some reviews mention but nothing major. The machine is quiet, even with fan running. It doesn't get hot like my Toshiba does (I had to use a cool pad with it). I would highly recommend the machine for the price ~$1,000. I didn't give it 5 stars because of the key noise and have not yet subjected it to travel roughness.
