5 out of 5 stars Flawless.......2007-06-03

This unit has worked flawlessly for the 6-8 weeks we have had it. In our small business the feature I like most is having project files created on one networked computer be backed up not only to the Mirra but also to other networked computers. But here's the beauty, files edited on the other computers are automatically backed up to the Mirra, and minutes later to the originating computer. I imagine that the same file could be edited by two people at the same time, but I haven't had this problem so far. The real solution to this is of course a more expensive regular server, but for our small business this works perfectly fine.
The second most liked feature is remote access via the internet. This is managed through Seagate's website and is a lot more convenient than lugging around a laptop or large storage device.
The only thing we don't get with this unit is automated offsite storage. For a manual version of this we use Google's free gmail with a limit of 3GB per account allowing quite a lot of offsite storage per gmail account. Whenever we send out project files to clients we simply cc: a gmail account.

I've had the Personal Server for a few weeks and it is great. It truly works as it is supposed to do (backup data). I enjoy the synchronization capability because I can place data on another machine and access it without going to the backup data when necessary.

My only issues are minor but noteworthy. 1) It is a NETWORK backup system. Therefore, it should allow you to view the multiple computer logs from one machine. Instead, you must log onto each computer to view its activity. 2) The ability to view photos from the server is great but I wish it had the ability to rotate photos that are done in portrait. 3.) When you synchronize a folder with multiple sub-folders, if you delete a subfolder and the files it contains, the files are gone on the other computer but the folder remains. That caused me some confusion at first until I read the manual.

Nevertheless, I have some issues but I gave it a five because its a great machine that has limited functionality but delivers on what it said it would do and you cannot fault them for that.

5 out of 5 stars Mirra 120.......2007-02-14

I have had my Mirra since 2003. I don't normally write reviews but in this case, the Mirra does everything it is supposed to do. It is easy to set up, it backs up files in real time in background, it is easy to retrieve files and one can readily retrieve files from anywhere on the internet.

It could be improved if one could schedule when it backed up files such as just at night. Internet access to the files is relatively slow since it is actually accessing your Mirra through a secure gateway. But when on a trip and you have to have access to one of your files it is there. I wish the software included schredding of purged files.

5 out of 5 stars If You Need Automatic Backup, Look No Further.......2006-11-07

I have had the 500 Gig version for about 2 weeks now and it has been working great. If you understand the relatively narrow function of this device, and that functionality is what you need, then it is worth every penny. I needed automated backup for a small business network, so I didn't care about whether the device is mappable or not for my application; I need automated backup, not another drive on the network. It installed with no problems; if you know what a router is and you can find the jack in the back, that is all the tech knowledge you need. Read the more technical reviews available on the internet. If you need straight automated backup, and you are not interested in being a network hacker, you just want the thing to work in the background so you can get back to your work with peace of mind, then this is the device for you.

5 out of 5 stars Worth every penny I paid.......2006-11-04

As a college student, I am constantly writing papers for class and doing other research. With my desktop being so far away from where I actually was, I needed an affordable way to access my data. The Mirra Personal Server came through with shining success. I am able to access the files I need from my home computer, as well as upload more to it. The versatility alone is worth the price.

Throw in the ability to share your files and folders with other people, and it pushes the server over the top. It is self regulating, easy to set up, and provides secure data backup in addition to its sharing capability. Within 10 minutes you can easily be protecting precious data, while ensuring you can access it from any computer in the world. Should the original file be lost, the Mirra Personal Server makes it easy to restore the file to its original location.

The customer service is really great, too. Almost all of the questions I had were answered within one business day, and often just a few hours. They are able to explain things clearly and completely, and it justs adds to the amount of praise I can give to this product.

If you want to ensure your precious files are securely backed up, while being able to access them anywhere and share any file with family and friends without the hassle of email file limits, the Mirra Personal Server is the only thing you will ever need.
