I really like this drive - it's extremly fast, silent and doesnt get too hot.

This drive has huge amounts of space on it and works well when used for backups and storage programs included with Windows XP. However, the person who designed the included software package should be tortured to death and his/her remains thrown to the dogs. If you are looking for a lot of space, this is your drive. Just do yourself a favor and don't even look at the enclosed software. You'll thank me later.

I have used various Maxtor external hard drives for work-related purposes over the last 3 years.

I think this 500 GB solution is quite cost effective and have yet to experience any reliability problems.

I would recommend it to others who need portable data storage for almost any purpose.

My Maxtor died with many hours of good stuff on it.
Think, think, think.
I had an old 85GB installed in one of the case-only sold by Amazon, so ---

Installed the Maxtor into the case-only instead and --- all was well.
It wasn't the hard drive that failed, it was the Maxtor case.

Simple solution, no-brainer to install. Case has a switch, lights and is quiet, no overheating.
