Amazon.com Product Description
Sturdy, versatile, and remarkably compact, given its voluminous storage capacity, iAudio's X5 portable multimedia device is sure to be a hit. The 20 GB audio/video player and recorder can store about 5,000 songs (4 minutes each, 128 kbps) i n a nearly unparalleled choice of formats, from MP3 and WMA to linear (uncompressed, CD-quality) WAV files, Ogg Vorbis f iles (which sound a bit better than MP3 for files of comparable size), as well as FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec, compr essed but designed for 1:1 encode/decode). The X5 can recognize up to 2,000 folders and 10,000 individual files, and its super power-saving circuit provides up to 14 hours continuous playback on a full charge.

Coolest of all? You can import photos taken from most digital cameras and view them on the player's 160 x 128-pixel, 260 ,000-color TFT LCD thanks to OTG ("on the go"), the player's USB host feature. (Certain digital cameras are not supporte d; see www.iaudio.com for compatibility.) Create your own logo or download logos from the iAudio web site. You can also set a picture of your choosing as wallpaper.

The player also offers FM radio listening and recording (with one-touch tuning presets), audio recording through either a built-in microphone or analog line-in input terminals, and the ability to read text as well as images--you can even vi ew text, though not images, while listening to music.

Use the included JetAudio software to convert various video files to MPEG-4 (up to 15 fps), then enjoy the transcoded vi deo files on the X5. Another program, JetShell, performs CD ripping and file conversion and facilitates music playback.< P> The X5 provides direct encoding, too, by which you can capture the output of an external audio device. This means you co nnect the output terminal of an external audio device to the recording (input) terminal of the X5 using a bidirectional stereo cable (supplied), letting you load material from components like a DVD player, a cassette deck, a minidisc player , a turntable, or a TV.

And, with the unit's built-in, high-fidelity microphone, the X5 can record speech with the quality of dedicated voice re corders--perfect for important meetings, lectures, and notes to self.

Onboard sound processing includes BBE Sound enhancement, BBE Mach3Bass, MP Enhance (designed to compensate for sound los t in MP3 compression), a 5-band adjustable equalizer, and 3D Surround (3-dimensional sound that gives the sound a wide s ense of space).

What's in the Box
iAudio player, stereo earphones, a subpack, an installation CD (JetShell and JetAudio), a USB 2.0 cable, a line-in recor ding cable, a USB host adapter, an AC power adapter, a user's manual, and warranty information.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great Bang for the Buck!.......2007-01-11

First, I'd like to say that this is my third Cavalry product purchase. What I'd like to know is how they put out such great products at these price points?!? I mean, consider how much 8 250GB SATA drives alone costs. The other external solutions that I was considering didn't even come close price wise, especially not for 2TB of storage.

As Toby said, the packing could have been better. My unit arrived with one bay dislodged. It was, of course, one of the more difficult ones to get to due to the design of the case (the top bays are between two steel panels). Still didn't take more than 10-15 minutes to fix the problem. My driver CD was also damaged; it had some kind of solvent on it... THAT didn't happen in transit! I just went to Addonics web site & downloaded what I needed. I'd have given this system 5 stars otherwise.

The unit installed very easily. The provided cables are plenty long enough for most any installation. The included Addonics controller card setup without a hitch.

This unit has been in service for about 4 weeks now and is performing splendidly. It's actually very quite considering that it has 19, yes, I said 19, cooling fans. It has, however, added a little more warmth to an already hot server room. Now I've got to get that cooled down... it never ends, does it?!?

3 out of 5 stars Who packed this thing?.......2007-01-09

I ordered two of these arrays. Both arrived ahead of the estimated delivery date.

Upon arrival, the packing material was a bit crumbled. It appeared that the units had been shipped fully populated in the same box that shipped the empty case to the manufacturer. Those styrofoam bits are made to be used with a certain weight item, and additional weight crushes them and reduces how well the protect the unit inside. Upon inspection, no concealed damage was noted, despite the rough ride.

One of the units was missing the drive bay keys. The other shipped with only two keys for 8 bays. Those bays almost invariably ship with 2 keys per unit. It's a good thing we ordered two arrays! This leads to the question: Who is hoarding all those spare keys at the Calvary Storage factory?

The SATA RAID controller shipped with the unit was manufacured by Addonics, a company I've dealt with directly in the past with good results.

The system is split into 2 4 drive channels, 2 SATA cables (included and lengthy) are needed gain access to the entire drive system.

All in all, at abit more than 3 weeks installed, I'm happy with the overall experience. Cavalry needs to make sure all the material that's supposed to be in the box is there, however.
