The Basics

Hard Drive: The 100 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) is a bit above average in size for notebook PCs. It offers more than enough capacity for storing documents and productivity software for road warriors. You'll also be able to store a good-sized digital audio library. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.

Processor: The Intel Core Duo T2050 processor is built with the Mobile Intel 945PM Express chipset, and it has a 1.60 GHz processor speed, fast 533 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and large 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

The Intel Core Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the next version of Microsoft Windows, code-named Vista. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. It's more efficient, thanks to Intel's Power Coordination and Deeper Sleep, which help to transfer power only to those areas of the processor that need it. It also features Intel's Digital Media Boost, which delivers enhanced performance on floating point-intensive applications such as CAD tools, 3-D and 2-D modeling, video editing, digital music, digital photography and gaming.

Memory: The 1 GB of built-in memory (PC4200, DDR2 SDRAM) is a good start for power users, and it offers a very fast 533 MHz speed. It has two memory slots, enabling you to add up to 4 GB of RAM for worry-free handling graphics-intensive presentations and multiple open business productivity applications.

CD/DVD Drive: The double-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents. It features the following speeds: 2.4x DVD+R DL, 2x DVD-R DL, 8x for both single-layer DVD+R/-R, 4x DVD+RW, 4x DVD-RW, 3x DVD-RAM, and 24x/10x for CD-R/RW. It reads DVD-ROM discs at 8x and CD-ROMs at 24x.

Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard keyboard and electro-static two-button touchpad. It also provides TruBrite technology, which makes images brighter and more vivid thanks to its anti-glare feature. Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950, which uses Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) and provides up to 128 MB of shared video memory. It also features an integrated audio card with headphone and microphone jacks. The built-in speakers can produce immersive SRS TruSurround XT virtual surround sound with SRS WOW sound enhancement. Connectivity and Expansion Slots

Easy to use.......2007-03-09

As a college student having a laptop is great. The Satellite hasn't given me any problems since I got it around Christmas and its compatible with XP or Vista. I am waiting for my copy of vista to arrive free of charge! I bought the computer before Vista came out and therefore was entitled to a free upgrade. My one piece of advice is to buy an extra battery. I know for me 3 hours isn't all that long and I sometimes forget to recharge it. The "universal" batteries sold in computer stores do not work on this model so you'll have to get a battery from Toshiba. Their website is easy to navigate and my extra battery is working great. Overall a great investment!

I used my brother's Sony and my friend's Dell before I bought this one.
I also have a Dell for a home computer. The only thing I can say that I will not trade my Toshiba for any other computer!!!. I called Dell few times and had to hold on the phone for hours and my hard drive crashed after 13 months on the Dell computer!! OK I worked for 11 years making the hard drives and I know it has nothing to do with Dell BUT they use the cheapest stuff.

TOSHIBA is the way to go, I called Toshiba's customer service and they were the most helpfull customer service that I've ever talked to.

THE LAPTOP IS A NICE ONE, HAS PLENTY OF SPACE TO USE AND THE PROCESSOR, EVEN THOUGH ITS NOT THE BEST ONE OUT, ITS ONE OF THE NEWEST AND WORKS GREAT. IT HAS NICE AND NEW STUFF, FOR EXAMPLE YOU CAN HEAR MUSIC WITHOUT STARTING WINDOWS. LOOKS NICE AND ITS LIGHT, THE BATTERY IS JUST AS MANY LAPTOPS AND THE PRICE IS REALLY LOW FOR SUCH A GREAT LAPTOP, NOT AS MODERN AS OTHERS BUT STILL NICE AND AFFORDABLE. I RECOMMEND TO BUY IT.

I have 5 of these at various client locations. My customers love them. The keyboard has a good feel (not too hard, not to mushy), the screen is superb, it's fast, easy to add RAM to and has all the features business clients want at a price that's just too hard to beat. Good overall quality, too. These Toshiba Satellite laptops are an ideal blend of size, durability and functionality. They're light, too. We sold two to college students and 6 months later they're still in great shape and the students love the performance. They're not a gaming machine but for business (and student reports, research, etc) they're a workhorse.
