The Basics

Hard Drive: You'll be able to store large libraries of digital audio, video, and photos on the 200 GB hard drive (4200 RPM)--one of the largest hard drive capacities you'll find currently in multimedia notebooks (October 2006). Memory: The 2 GB of built-in memory (PC4200, DDR2 SDRAM) is a great start for power users, and it offers a very fast 533 MHz speed. It has two memory slots, enabling you to add up to 4 GB of RAM for worry-free handling graphics-intensive presentations and multiple open business productivity applications.

CD/DVD Drive: The double-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents. not much better than my previous 5 year old Satellite.......2007-03-26

I expected a quantum leap, compared to my previous Satellite (which I loved ), and was initially disappointed. This one has tons of RAM and a big hard drive, but does not run any faster. It does run a lot cooler, though. I don't think I like the new ultra bright screen as much as the old type. It has a shiny surface that catches a lot of reflections (kind of like a plasma vs LCD tv screen). I am using this computer to run memory hungry programs (eg Adobe Lightroom), and it does seem to run quite well. This is my 3rd Satellite - I have had good luck w/ Toshiba.

MY FIRST COMPUTOR WAS A SX316 HP. I'VE BUILT TWO, HAD 4 GATEWAYS, NOW THE TOSHIBA 105-S6134 WITH THE17" WIDESCREEN. IT DOES EVERYTHING I WANT. ITS THE BEST YET. MY REASON FOR 4 AND NOT 5 STARS IS WINDOWS XP BRING IT DOWN.

Great Computer-Short Battery Life.......2007-02-20

Have had no problems with this computer. Does lots of things very well.
Only draw back is a short battery life, 1 to 2 hours. Not good for long flights. Not a problem at home or in the office.

Toshiba makes great computers.......2007-02-14

I am completely satisified with this lap top. Other reviewers complain about the right side shift key. Since I'm not a high speed typist, I haven't had any problems accomodating it. I bought the lap top to use on the move and don't really need it for typing long documents. I'm happy.

Yes, the shift key is quite small and hard to type on...
If you intend your laptop for typing and not multimedia then this is not your laptop. If your main purpose is using it's large hard drive and fast speed to listen to music, watch tv, and even record tv then this is your lap top. I recorded a movie from TV and burned it. Great quality video and sound. This feature will come in handy perhaps too much for my own good. ;)
