The Basics

Hard Drive: The 40 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) is below average for current notebooks (about 80 GB). It provides enough storage for business productivity applications and your most necessary documents and spreadsheets, but you might feel squeezed when storing digital media files. Processor: The Intel Celeron M Processor 410 is designed specifically for mobile computing, offering a balanced level of mobile-optimized processor technology, good mobile performance, and exceptional value. The 1.46 GHz speed is complemented by a speedy 533 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and large 1 MB L2 cache. I bought this laptop for my son. He is freshmen in university now. I am happy with this laptop. It only has CD writer, if DVD writer is perfect. It has memory card reader (it can read 5 types of memory cards, maybe it doesn't read compact flash) wifi for wireless internet. 14" screen is very easy to carry. At first, you have to backup everything to 5 CDs then it also allow you to backup everything to hard disc. So you always have 2 backup. Sometime you can backup to hard disc and it allows you to delete certain previous backup or restore from any previous backup. I just backup 2 times in hard disc. I didn't try to restore yet.
In the hard disc it have 2 partitions: partition C for software, system like usual. Partition D: for data. You can save your software and data in C or D as you like.
It is fast enough to surf internet and do everything else. My son doesn't play game in this laptop so I am not sure it is good to play game in this laptop. Its price is cheap one but good enough in laptop market. I like this laptop.

Bad deal!.......2006-11-29

Good luck if you want to do a clean install of windows after you buy this computer. Acer's Technical support has got to be the worst in the industry. They have some lame spiel about how they only support drivers for the particular flavor of Windows that was shipped with the computer. Dell provides drivers for other versions of Windows even though it didn't come with the computer. How come they can't provide customers with similar courtesy? Don't expect quality technical support from Acer on any of their product lines.
