The JVC MX-KC4 audio system may come in a relatively small package, but it packs a huge sound thanks to its 360 watts (180 watts x 2) of total power. The stereo's generous output, when teamed with its pair of three-way bass-reflex speakers--each with a 6.31-inch cone woofer, 2-inch cone midrange, and 0.81-inch dome tweeter--delivers a rich, full-bodied audio performance that resonates in all but the largest rooms. The MX-KC4 also boasts an impressive collection of features that stand above many similarly priced systems, such as MP3 playback (on CD-R/RW) and a three-disc carousel CD changer with play exchange, which keeps the music playing even while you're adding or removing CDs.
The CD player's other notable functions include 32-track programming, random play, and repeat play, along with standard song skip/search and play/pause functions. To make MP3 playback more convenient and enjoyable, JVC added ID3 tagging, which lets users read MP3 artist and title information on the front readout. And should listeners tire of CDs and MP3s, they can turn to the cassette deck (this is the one JVC mini system with a cassette player) or the digital AM/FM tuner.
Additional features include a Rhythmax audio function, which amplifies the "rhythms" of a tune while still pumping out serious bass; a built-in equalizer with rock, pop, and classic modes; 1-bit digital-to-analog converter that ensures crisp, clean audio playback; a headphone jack for private listening; and a front auxiliary input that connects to such devices as iPods and portable MP3 players.
