The Philips MC138 Micro Hi-Fi Shelf Stereo System is ideal for anybody who is simply trying to provide a small room or study with good sound, but doesn't want to spend a lot of money doing it. This shelf-style stereo system comes with all the basic features and functions you need to enjoy listening to tape cassettes, CDs or the radio.

The two-way bass reflex speakers in MC138 fill your room with rich, full sound while the two-step dynamic bass boost brings out the bass in your tunes even at low volumes. Combined with a four-inch woofer and a Piezo tweeter, these two 2.5-watt RMS speakers kick out a total of five watts of output to provide you with a sound that is surprisingly clear and voluminous for a unit of this size.

The MC138's CD player is top-loading and can play any CD or CD-R/RW. The CD player has a 20-track programmable memory, and offers multiple playback modes such as repeat one, all or program, and shuffle play. The MC138's tape player has electronic speed control, allows you to both play from or record to tape cassettes, and features automatic recording level as well as CD synchro-start recording. The radio on this unit can play both FM stereo and AM bands, and features auto digital tuning, as well as 30 station presets and an auto store function.

Set-up is as easy as connecting the backs of the speakers to the center unit with any standard speaker wires. For added convenience, the Philips MC138 features a wake-up alarm and a sleep timer, both of which can operate via either the CD player or the radio. There is a standard clock on the main display, which is an LCD screen with a green backlight for easy viewing. The unit comes with an AM antenna and an 18-key remote control (battery included) that allows you to operate your CD player, tape deck, volume control, and tuner from a comfortable location.
