<B>Design</B>
The t209 sports a slim, sleek clamshell design with a large 128 x 160 color display with 65,000 colors. A supplementary, 96 x 64 monochrome OLED screen on the front of the cover keeps you up to speed on time, date, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. Up and down buttons for volume control are placed on the left side, while most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's control pad. There's also a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets, while the phone's charging port is placed on the bottom of the unit. And because the t209's antenna is housed inside the phone, there's nothing to snag or break off.

<B>Calling Features</B>
With a big 500-contact address book, the t209 is designed to hold all of your important calling information. The phone also features 40-chord polyphonic ringtones, and in addition to the built-in ringers you can download additional ones from T-Mobile's t-zones service. A vibrate alert silently notifies you of incoming calls when you want to be discreet, and a handy speakerphone lets you talk handsfree or hold conference calls. Meanwhile, ringer and picture ID lets you assign photos and ringtones to callers. Like all T-Mobile phones, the t209 also supports voicemail, caller ID, conference calling, call forwarding, call waiting, call hold, built-in paging, and access to T-Mobile's 411 service. And don't forget, with T-Mobile To Go, you get pay as you go wireless service exactly how you want it. All with the best pricing, no annual contract, no credit check and no surprises.

<B>Messaging, Internet, and Tools</B>
Powerful messaging and Internet capabilities are built into the t209. Support is provided for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, sound and video via MMS messages. Instant messaging is also supported via the AIM and Yahoo! messaging clients (T-Mobile messaging charges apply), and there's also a built-in web browser for t-zones downloads and mobile web browsing. T-Mobile's t-zones service lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile text messaging users.

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the t209 including a calculator with a unit converter, an alarm, a voice memo recorder, a to-do list, and a calendar.

<B>Entertainment</B>
The t209 allows you to set screensavers, themes and wallpapers to suit your tastes. The phone is Java enabled, meaning it supports games written on the Java platform. The unit ships with several games and more are available via the t-zones service.

<B>Vital Statistics</B>
The Samsung SGH-t209 weighs 3.3 ounces and measures 3.5 x 1.9 x 1 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 5 hours of digital talk time, and up to 8 days of digital standby time. It runs on the 850/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

I am a late adopter who didn't want a cell phone because I have an office phone and a home phone, didn't want another monthly bill and don't necessarily want to be available 24/7. That said, we all have "cell phone moments" when it's convenient to locate someone in a shopping mall or tell people your flight was delayed. This phone serves the needs of the occasional user very well. The quality generally doesn't match a land line but the reception is good, it seems sturdier than my children's fancier phones, and (best of all) it really does stay charged 8 days, so it only needs re-charging once a week. Most of the time this little phone just hangs out fairly silently in vibrate mode at the bottom of my handbag--I can hear it in a quiet office or ignor it--but it's ready to role when I've already parked the car but can't find the people I'm meeting for dinner. I've had it for two months now, make or receive half a dozen two minute calls a week, and at this rate it will end up costing about $10/month over two years!

I bought the Samsung t209 for my mother but I was sooo tempted to keep it for myself. In red, the phone is adorable and it's fairly simple to use. I agree that if you're looking for a basic phone, this one's hard to beat.

So far I've been impressed with the TMO to Go service. The activation was straightforward and it's so easy to go online and check the current balance, etc.

If you are searching for a basic phone, you won't be dissapointed with T-Mobile To Go. The sound and reception are good. I absolutely love this phone.
