The 730i is an innovative, unique digital audio player that plays interactive MP3 files known as MP3i files. MP3i, patented by FID, fuses pictures, text, lyrics, and more with audio, creating a richer user experience. An MP3i can either be played back on a PC using a free jukebox plugin such as WinAmp or Media Jukebox, or on the 730i. MP3i files are completely backward compatible with MP3s and use the .mp3 extension, allowing standard MP3 players to play the audio from an MP3i. The 730i LCD displays graphics, lyrics, and text such as biography or discography information. The 730i includes FID's leading edge software, MP3i Creator, that enables you to produce your own interactive MP3s for display on the 730i or on the PC.

The 128MB of internal memory is expandable to 256MB with a SmartMedia card, providing up to nine hours of music listening. With the MP3i Creator software, it is possible to add visual and textual enhancements to your player. The730i also comes with MusicMatch Jukebox software to get you up and running.
