The Philips AX5312 portable CD player provides a versatile listening experience at a great price. Take it jogging, and the virtually jog-proof Electronic Skip Protection (ESP) gives you 45 seconds skipproof delay. ESP is an intelligent electronic buffer that constantly feed your music into the player's memory buffer during playback, allowing you to continue to experience uninterrupted sound in the event of knocks, shakes or jolts, accidentally or during sports. When a shock does occur, music is released from the buffer and the player's laser refocuses exactly at the point where the shock occurred, then recommences playing to refill the buffer. You'll also get Digital Dynamic Bass Boost, intelligent maximum bass enhancement that delivers high volumes without sound distortion, and at low volumes without compromising on bottom-end bass frequencies. The total output power to headphones (RMS) is 2 x 5mW (left and right).

The AX5312 plays CD, CD-R, and CD-RW discs, so all your home-mixed and store-bought discs will work the same. Controls include 30-track programmable, Fast Forward/Backward, Repeat Play, Shuffle, Play, Introscan, Hold, and Resume (which resumes playback from stop). The player has a heat-resistant body and is outfitted with an in-cord, 6-key remote control to make controlling the device extra easy. The primary display shows track, time, DBB, ESP, volume, and battery status. The player measures 5.4 x 0.9 x 5.4 inches, and weighs only 0.4 lbs. You'll get about 40 hours playtime out of the battery, (using 2 x AA alkaline batteries, in power saving mode) or about 16 hours with 2 x AAA alkaline batteries in power saving mode.
