15 months of service and it dies! One year of warranty unlike their competition. The company pretty much said tuff. Buy another brand with a warranty and will stand behind their products.
nice monitor - LOTS of inputs.......2007-05-03
great monitor- i use it hooked up to my 20" iMac as an extedended desktop. i also have my satelite set top box plugged in via composite (mediocre quality hopefully improve with S-video). i can work on the computer while watching TV PIP (picture in picture)
PROS: nice size (22")
LOTS of inputs (composite, component, S-video, DVI, VGA)
slim bezel - hardly any wasted space
good resolution and contrast
PIP is nice touch and easy to use- u can even change the transparency of the PIP window
CONS:
backlight bleeding on top and bottom - is definitely noticable but only on very dark screens. u cant even tell otherwise.
DVI cable not included
stand does not rotate and height does not adjust
speakers not included (not a problem for me - audio goes right into my JBL Creature II speakers)
Gateway also needs to work on its tech support:
after emailing through their website because i was having trouble figuring out how to turn of the sound made when pressing the monitor's buttons, i received this response
Hello Brett,
Thank you for your e-mail. Based on the description you have provided
in your e-mail, it appears you would want to mute the sounds of monitor
when pressing the menu buttons. You cannot disable the sound of menu
buttons in your monitor.
this is not true at all. before i even received their answer, i found the audio options in one of the onscreen menus.
Great monitor.. if you know what your doing........2007-04-27
Yeah. This is a GREAT monitor, if you know what your doing. Hooking it up with the included VGA cable just kills the quality, which a lot of people said when the color "bleeds". If you hook it up with a DVI-D cable, it will look fantastic, crisp, sharp, vidid and awe inspiring. It WILL look noticeably better when you hook it up with DVI-D, fairly cheap cable, i don't know why Gateway didn't include it with the monitor.
I have it hooked up to my Mac Mini via VGA and my PC via DVI-D. The quality looks soo much better on my PC than my Mac Mini. Even though I haven't tried watching DVDs on my PC yet, but the games look really nice. But the DVDs on my Mac Mini is somewhat grainy.
It is BRIGHT, much brighter than my Sony HS95. The Inputs are auto switching between inputs whichever is being used. but if you have two opened at the same time or one opened after the first one, it wont switch.
Reason why i gave it 4 instead of 5 is because of Gateway not including the DVI cable and just throwing in a VGA, while the 24" costs almost twice as much comes with one of each cable and a height/rotatable adjustable base. Another thing is the backlight of the monitor seeps out from the sides, resulting in the sides showing the white light, but only noticeable when viewing black.
Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase and do not regret buying it. Just make sure to buy a DVI cable when buying this to get the full potential of the monitor.
I hate it.......2007-04-17
i don't find it to be bright an clear or sharp. Also my mouse keeps getting lost off the bottom and left side of the screen. Maybe it ir just an adjustment, but I find the adjustments difficult to manage. And my major complaint is Technical Support! After updating to windows Vista the USB ports stopped working. I called Gateway and they would offer me no advice because the monitor was not bought as a system but rather individually. So I guess I have to wait till someone who got a system with this monitor complains and Gateway decides to fix it. No more Gateways for me.
not quite ..........2007-04-16
Reading text is my primary use of this monitor, then this monitor won't make a cut. For some unknown reasons, the text looks sharp but it give me eye-strain after reading for 20 minutes or so, when I don't have this problem with a ten yrs old CRT monitor. I read somewhere other people have the same problem with different LCD monitors.
For watching DVD or playing games, it is adequate because of its pleasing color display. If you are movie enthusiast, this monitor can't display correct gray scale with accompanied software, 18% gray reflection looks black, no matter adjustments of contrast and brightness, and it certainly can't display infinitive shade of gray; you will loose a lot of subtle shadow details on dark scenes, the only remedy is to crank up the brightness and everything looks brighter than intended and color is not right.
The menu adjustment is touch sensitive digital, cool looking but less convenient than the standard analog buttons, it doesn't have precise response so there will be a lot of fumbles until you point it right.
This monitor (and all of current LCD TFT of same price point) is good for games but not for quality freaks.
