The phone features a traditional clamshell design with a 128 x 128 color display with 65,000 colors. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad. The top right side of the unit houses an antenna, and a charging port is housed on the unit's bottom edge. There's a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets on the left side of the handset.
<B>Calling Features</B>
The VX3450's built-in address book can store up to 300 contacts for quick and easy management of phone numbers and e-mail addresses. The phone comes with built-in polyphonic ringtones plus a vibrating alert and you can also record your own voice to serve as a ringtone. Voice-activated dialing makes calling your friends, family, and associates as easy as saying their names. The speed dialing feature allows you to dial up to 99 numbers virtually instantaneously. A built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear, and the VX3450's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911. Perhaps most importantly for users in rural areas, the VX3450 is a tri-mode phone, meaning it can operate on Verizon's digital networks, as well as on the analog networks that serve many outlying areas.
<B>Messaging, Internet, and Tools</B>
The VX3450 covers the messaging basics with support for sending and receiving text and graphics messages. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built in to the unit--a plus for mobile e-mail and text messaging users.
The VX3450 ships with a calendar and scheduler, a voice memo application, and a notepad. An alarm clock, calculator, and world clock are also included, as is the very handy restaurant tip calculator. Whether you feel the waiter deserves a 15 percent tip, or a 20 percent tip, you're in charge; and with the VX3450, you'll figure the tip with efficiency and speed. Never dine without it.
<B>Imaging and Entertainment</B>
The VX3450 features customizable theme colors and screen backgrounds so you can make your phone reflect your personality. The VX3450 also sports an airplane mode feature, which allows you to safely use the non-wireless functions of the phone (such as the calendar or organizer functions) on an airplane during flight.
