For great hi-fi sound and on a budget, look no further than Denon's DRA-295 AM/FM receiver. The component is engineered to serve as the heart of a 2-channel music system while providing convenient composite-video switching for stereo video sources such as DVD players, digital video recorders, digital satellite systems, cable boxes, and VCRs. The receiver pumps 50 watts per channel x 2 into 8 ohm speakers (from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with .08 percent total harmonic distortion) and offers 2 sets of binding-post speaker terminals for powering 2 sets of speakers simultaneously.

Add great hi-fi sound on a budget with the DRA-295. Take a closer look at the controls.

The DRA-295 divides the circuits handling low- and high-level audio signals into separate blocks to minimize the signals' influences on each other. This chassis design, new to the DRA-295, is called Signal Level Divided Construction (SLDC). The resultant output signals are cleaner than before, possessing greater fidelity and clarity.

The receiver offers 5 stereo analog audio inputs, and the back panel sports 2 tape outputs. There's also a set of stereo (left/right RCA) preamplifier outputs, which may be used with a stand-alone audio amplifier for higher-power sound or for music enjoyment in another room. Use the receiver's remote input and output jacks to hook up external remote-control equipment, including IR re-transmitters and IR remote receivers (such as Denon's separately available RC-616, 617S, 617W, or 618 IR devices) so you can operate the DRA-295 with its supplied remote control, even if the receiver is in another room.

The PLL FM/AM tuner offers 40 station presets for one-button tuning to your favorite radio stations; auto preset memory scans for stations so you don't have to manually program all 40. Other useful features include bass and treble tone controls, tone defeat, muting from the remote, a motor-driven rotary volume control, last-function memory, and switched AC outlets for powering other components.

What's in the Box
Receiver, two remote controls, remote batteries (two AA, two AAA), FM indoor antenna, AM loop antenna, a user's manual, a warranty card, and a service-station list.

Amazon.com Product Description

Looking for Motorola fashion, but not the high price tag? Look no further than the little cousin of the wildly popular MOTO PEBL, The Motorola W315. The W315 sports a chic, PEBL-inspired clamshell design with a vertical external display. Key features include speakerphone, BREW, MMS, and voice dialing.

<B>Design</B>
The phone features a traditional clamshell design with a large 128 x 160 color display that supports over 65,000 colors. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad. A supplementary external screen can display call information, time of day, battery and signal strength, and more. Lastly, the unit also sports a stub-extendable antenna, a built-in mini-USB port, and a standard jack to accept universal hands-free headsets.

<B>Calling Features</B>
Robust calling features are at the heart of the W315. The built-in voice dialing feature allows you to make calls without ever touching the device. The W315's built-in address book can store up to 1000 contacts, with up to six numbers per name, for quick and easy management of phone numbers and email addresses. In addition to having a discreet vibrating alert, the phone supports polyphonic ringtones, which means you can really jazz up your incoming calls with cool ringtones. The W315 also allows assigned ringer and picture IDs so you can easily identify incoming calls from your address book by a glance at the screen, or from across the room. A built-in two-way speakerphone makes it easy for you and others in the car to talk hands-free. Lastly, the W315's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911.

Because the W315 is a tri-mode phone, it can operate on Verizon's digital networks, as well as analog networks that serve many outlying areas.

<B>Messaging, Internet and Tools</B>
The W315 covers the messaging basics with support for sending and receiving text and graphics via messages. Getting on the Internet anywhere is easy with the W315, as well. Verizon's optional Mobile Web package allows you to read and send e-mails, exchange instant messages and view your favorite web content on your phone. You can check your e-mail, trade stocks online, compare prices while shopping, access flight information, get movie listings, and find directions to the theater.

Verizon's Get It Now wireless download service is also fully compatible with the W315. This pay-per-download service features application downloads, games and productivity tools. You can also personalize your handset with ringtone downloads and digital photo-sharing tools using the Get It Now service.

The W315 ships with a calendar and a voice memo application, as well as an alarm clock and a calculator.

<B>Imaging and Entertainment</B>
The W315 features customizable theme colors, screen backgrounds, fonts and caller ID graphics and pictures so you can make your phone reflect your personality. Games and other applications are available via the Get It Now service.

<B>Vital Statistics</B>
The Motorola W315 weighs 3.53 ounces and measures 3.48 x 1.97 x 0.89 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 3.05 hours of digital talk time, and up to 217 hours of digital standby time. It runs on the AMPS 850, and CDMA 850/1900 frequencies. The phone comes with a one-year limited warranty.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Back to Basics.......2007-01-30

This phone is a very good basic phone. Absolutely no frills, simply a plain vanilla cell-phone.
I obtained it through Verizon Wireless, so this review is per Verizon Wireless's setup.

Looks and Feel: Very attractive, similar to the PEBL look (mine is in dark blue). Rubberized texture keeps phone from slipping out of my pocket. External LCD is interesting because the color is inverted and text is vertical. However, it can be changed to horizontal but it looks silly that way because the time is displayed on two lines.
The buttons have a very nice, solid feel to them. This phone is constructed much better than my old LG, which felt cheap. There is a bit of side-to-side play in the cover when the phone is closed (I've read this in other reviews), however when the phone is open it feels solid.

Features: This phone does not support Get-It-Now or Mobile Browser, which I had on my older phone but hardly ever used. Nowadays, anywhere I go has internet access so it really isn't a deal-breaker for me. The standard ring-tones selection is a joke, but I usually keep it in vibrate mode anyway so I don't notice. The vibrate is slightly less powerful than I'm used to, but I still notice it. If you're reading this review, you probably know that it has no camera (I can't have one at my work).

Sound: The phone's normal ear-speaker is bright and loud and sounds very full. My old LG sounded tinny. The phone's 'speaker-phone' is located on the back of the phone, near the bottom of the battery compartment. Quality is not as good as my old LG VX4650, but still loud enough to hear while I'm driving on the Freeway. One nice thing is that the call stays connected even if you close the phone (if speaker-phone is activated).
I haven't had the chance to play any ringtones other than the standard tones (BitPim doesn't yet support this phone). Unfortunately, since it cannot receive pix or objects in text messages there is no other way to get any media to the phone. I heard about Motorola Phone Tools, but I don't want to buy this so I can't comment on operability with that.

Battery Life: Great. I took the phone off the charger saturday morning, it's now Monday and the bars are still at full charge. Much better than my old LG.

Tools: Calculator, alarm, calendar, voice memo. Simple and effective.

Connectivity: There is a mini-USB connector on the side of the phone which the charger and data-cable can plug into. The data cable is the same as my palm-pilot and samsung MP3 player had, so that is very nice. Thanks Motorola for not using a proprietary interface!

Summary: Very good BASIC phone. Don't expect to be able to customize the phone very much, other than the color scheme and some basic midi ring-tones. I gave it 4 stars because the vibrate function isn't as strong as I would like, also the speaker-phone quality is not as good as my older phone. Also, the external display doesn't tell you if the phone is in vibrate mode or not. But a great battery life and very nice-feeling keys and sturdy construction make it a great phone.
