In addition to an integrated 54g wireless LAN, this notebook also includes Acer's SignalUp technology--a super-efficient antenna is built into the case, creating an omni-directional sphere that extends signal range and quality. It also offers an 80 GB hard drive, 512 MB of RAM (2 GB maximum), a dual-layer DVD burner, and 5-in-1 memory card reader.

This laptop also comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic, which delivers a safer, more reliable, and more productive computing environment. It integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.

<b>The Basics</b>

  • Processor: A lower-end cousin to AMD's XP processor line, the 1.8 GHz AMD Sempron 3400+ found in this notebook is speedy enough for everyday computing needs and running office productivity software, but won't be quite enough for higher-end video editing or 3-D gaming. This processor features AMD's Cool'n'Quiet Technology, which conserves power while also keeping the notebook's decibels to a minimum. It also features up to a 1600 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and a 256 KB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

  • Hard Drive: The 80 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) is average in size for notebook PCs, and it's roomy enough to store business productivity applications, all your important documents and presentations, and a good-sized digital audio and video library.

  • Memory: The 512 MB of built-in memory (1 x 512 MB, 533 MHz) is a decent start for power users. But you'll want to take advantage of the 2 GB capacity for working with today's demanding business productivity applications.

  • DVD/CD Drive: The multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It offers the following write speeds: 4x for dual-layer DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL; 8x for single-layer DVD-R and DVD+R; 8x for DVD+RW; 6x for DVD-RW; 5x for DVD-RAM; and 24x/16x for CD-R/RW.

    The 15.4-inch WXGA LCD has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and a 200-nit high-brightness LCD with a 16 ms response time.     Acer's CrystalBrite display technology guarantees the best possible visual experience by preventing the diffusion of surrounding light and internal ray.     The laptop hardware is ok but for the configuration Windows Vista is too heavy, really slow, is better if Windows XP came installed.
