The Basics

Processor: Combining strong performance with efficient usage of power, the 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 MK-36 is uniquely optimized to power today's thinnest notebooks. It's also built for tomorrow's 64-bit applications, which will require a processor with significant power. It includes such AMD technology features as HyperTransport (which increases the communication between integrated circuits), PowerNow! (which enables longer battery life and reduced heat generation), and Enhanced Virus Protection (which works with Windows XP Service Pack 2 to better withstand attacks from certain classes of viruses). Hard Drive: The 120 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) offers enough to room to hold a digital audio library of over 20,000 songs and still have room left over for movies, games, and a large collection of software. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.

Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (2 x 512 MB DDR2) is a good start, but you'll want to add more RAM to handle today's demanding multimedia and productivity suites. It provides two DIMM slots and has a 2 GB maximum RAM capacity. To receive the faster data transfer benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.

excellent and fast HP laptop with enough RAM and 120GB hard drive as needed for a pretty good Vista Home Premium. Battery life around 90 minutes. I am used to an audible 'low battery' warning which I cannot find on this HP.
The metal mousepad is superior to the plastic feel pad I formerly had on a Vaio so that's another improvement. The only thing I wish I had is an actual manual which is still a bit easier as reference than looking it up online.
Otherwise I am very happy with this HP.

This computer has self-unzipping operating system, meaning that you must install the operating system which is a mostly automatic operation. In my case the operating system would not unzip after repeated efforts. HP tech support spent over an hour with me on the phone unsuccessfully trying different jump starts. Overall, I wasted a day trying to get this computer going. This is the first HP product that caused me problems on initial startup. I can't understand why HP would not install the OS and fully test its products prior to shipping. Amazon's return and refund policy worked well but I cannot recommend this product.
