The Northridge E Series EC35 3-way center channel loudspeaker was custom-designed to superbly reproduce the human voice. Many movie soundtracks consist mainly of dialogue, so the center speaker shoulders the burden of filling a home theater. The EC35 easily handles the job. And it's video-shielded, so it can be placed on top of a television. The EC35 performs like a pro, with technology developed by JBL's Professional division. Equipped with JBL's tried-and-true titanium-laminate tweeters and PolyPlas drivers, the speaker reproduces dialogue with extreme clarity. The lows and mids, efficiently boosted by a 3-inch midrange and dual 5-1/4-inch woofers, and assisted by the FreeFlow flared port, are loud and clear, without unwanted distortion or boominess. The Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal (EOS) wave guide ensures that every seat is the best in the house. Since the transducers were purpose-designed to work together harmoniously, JBL's simple Straight-Line Signal Path (SSP) crossover network divides the signal with minimal processing (and minimal opportunity to degrade the signal). Dual sets of sturdy gold-plated, 5-way binding posts enable bi-amping or bi-wiring. With the high, midrange and low frequencies isolated, the EC35's four transducers can reproduce their frequency ranges more efficiently and with greater accuracy. The computer-designed, lock-mitred cabinet virtually eliminates distortion, and its slim European profile won't overpower your room.

Center channel speakers are arguably the most important speakers in a home theater system, as they shoulder the burden of reproducing the dialogue. The JBL Northridge EC35 handles the assignment with ease, however, reproducing voices with maximum clarity so listeners never miss a moment of conversation. The speaker is equipped with dual 5.25-inch PolyPlas woofers and a 3-inch PolyPlas midrange, which combine to deliver loud and clear low and mid frequencies without distortion or unwanted thump. Meanwhile, the speaker's 0.75-inch titanium-laminate tweeter is oval shaped rather than round--JBL calls this orientation Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal (EOS)--resulting in a wider horizontal dispersion of sound. The idea is simple: turn every seat, even those in the corners of the room, into the best seat in the house.

Additional audio attributes include a Straight-Line Signal Path (SSP) crossover network, which divides the signal with minimal processing to preserve its integrity, and dual sets of sturdy, gold-plated, five-way binding posts that provide the best connection possible. The binding posts also enable bi-wiring and bi-amping, which can offer either subtle (former) or significant (latter) improvements in audio imaging and detail. All this in an attractive computer-designed cabinet with a beech finish that virtually eliminates distortion. In addition, the speaker maintains a slim profile at 22 by 7.25 by 10.44 inches (W x H x D), and offers video shielding to protect the onscreen image, so home theater users can place the speaker directly on top of the TV.
