In addition, as with all of the company's center channel speakers, the 1200C comes with a unique tilting base so the speaker is always precisely aimed at your ears. This aiming capability ensures high intelligibility of voices, dialogue, and on-screen effects.The 1200 C has a three-position switch to compensate for 'live' or 'dead' room acoustics so the sound is never too bright or too dull. The high frequencies will always be in perfect proportion.Placing a center channel speaker directly on a large-screen TV or in a bookshelf unit can cause a buildup of lower midrange energy that makes voices and instruments sound unnaturally thick and heavy. One of the biggest dilemmas for home theater audiophiles is deciding how much space in a room to devote to speakers. Now Atlantic has stepped into the fray with a solution: the 1200 series, which delivers the high-end performance of a much larger system without the bulk. The system is designed as a set of "acoustic building blocks" that can be mixed and matched depending on your room and budget. The underlying theme, however, is a consistent tonal balance between all the speakers, ensuring that any combination will sound seamless and rich.

The Atlantic 1200C center-channel speaker is among the series' most important models, as it handles the all-important task of reproducing a movie's dialogue. The speaker houses a pair of 4-inch graphite-loaded homopolymer (GLH) midwoofers and an advanced 1-inch soft dome tweeter--similar to the 1200 LR front-channel speakers but with an extra woofer. The drivers create a 95 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, and more importantly, make voices, dialogue, and onscreen effects sound crisp and highly intelligible.

To ensure optimum coverage of the listening area, Atlantic grouped the 1200C's drivers in a bunched array and placed them on a unique tilting base that's aimed precisely at your ears. As a result, you'll always hear the sound the way it was meant to be heard. Atlantic also added a three-position, high-frequency tweeter level switch to compensate for "live" or "dead" room acoustics. The switch ensures that the sound is never too bright or too dull, and that the high frequencies are always in perfect proportion.

In addition, the 1200C boasts a feature called boundary compensation that's intended to counteract the buildup of lower midrange energy that often occurs when center speakers are located near a large-screen TV. The energy buildup tends to make voices and instruments sound unnaturally thick and heavy, but the boundary circuit reverses the trend and returns the lower midrange--particularly male voices--to its natural, uncolored state.
