A one-step solution for audiophiles looking to boost their home theater performance, this Acoustic Research six-piece speaker system delivers high-quality surround sound at an affordable price. The system consists of four two-way ported satellite speakers, each with 3.5-inch woofers and 1-inch tweeters; a center (dialogue) two-way sealed speaker with dual 4-inch woofers and a 1-inch tweeter; and a 100-watt front-firing subwoofer with an 8-inch long-throw woofer. The matching satellites, which measure 5.25 inches wide and 7.75 inches tall, are compact enough to fit on a bookshelf or portable speaker stands, yet big enough to supply the audio oomph that movie fans have come to expect. Acoustic Research recommends pairing the system with an amplifier that supports from 25 watts to 100 watts per channel, which should meet the specifications of most surround receivers.

Once connected, the speakers deliver a dramatic audio range, with a frequency response of 80 Hz to 20 kHz through the satellite and center speakers and 32 to 150 Hz through the subwoofer--enough to give explosions a thunderous bombast and bird chirps a sweet, crisp resonance. Unlike many speaker systems, the ARHC6 does not include speaker cables that connect to its corrosion-resistant gold-plated terminals.
