Bring your music or DVD sound to places where traditional speakers won't fit with NXG Technology's 2-way NX-PRO80C in-ceiling speakers. They make unassuming surround speakers for home theater, too--simply mount one pair (2 speakers) to the rear of your listening position or, for 7.1 sound, 2 pairs with speakers both behind and to the side of your listening area.

Each of the two speakers in the NX-PRO80C package is outfitted with a large, 8-inch titanium-anodized, injection-molded woofer with a durable rubber surround and a 1-inch liquid-cooled, titanium-dome tweeter. The tweeters pivot so you can aim them toward your primary listening position(s).

With in-ceiling speakers, the ceiling and the space behind it actually serve as a speaker cabinet, resonating with lower (bass) frequencies that would be lost without the focusing a cabinet provides. As such, the speaker depth is just 4 inches, yet they still deliver a nearly full-range 40 to 22,000 Hz frequency response. Mounted flush to the ceiling, they occupy absolutely no shelf space. This discreet, compact format is perfect for applications where traditional speakers would be impractical or impossible--or simply unsightly.

The speakers' sensitivity is rated at 90 dB (1 watt @ 1 meter), which means they're easily driven; NXG recommends use with integrated amplifiers or surround receivers up to 100 watts (maximum) per channel. The speakers sound great on their own, but you can also use them as secondary speakers to bring music from your living-room system to additional rooms in the house.

NXG recommends using a minimum of 16-gauge speaker wire for all installations, keeping in mind that gauge decreases as the wire thickens (i.e. 14-gauge wire is thicker than 16-gauge wire). You may paint the perforated speaker grilles, as well as the frames, to match any room.

    I'm sure the technical aspects of this computer are on par with any Sony laptop. I'm just unhappy that it's labeled a "white" laptop. Or, I'm unhappy with my decision to purchase this laptop from a retailer that didn't have very good images of the product the way Amazon does.

    We are setting up an all-white showroom, and needed a laptop (non-Macintosh) in a color to compliment the design. We ordered this Sony "White" laptop and...

    It's not white at all. Funny, the "Pink" one is pink. The "Grey" one is grey. But the "White" one is silver.

    5 out of 5 stars Good, Vista not fully integrated with Hardware.......2007-02-24

    I purchased this Vaio from the Sony website. You can get the same machine, only you can choose your own specs: (such as a larger hard drive, faster processor etc). It's an extremely attractive machine (hey, it's pink that's one of the reasons you are buying it, right?), the exterior is very sturdy the screen bright and clear, and the design is very modern.

    It is also virtually soundless although the hard drive can make a really high-pitched sound when its accessing. The battery power is decent, although I opted to upgrade my battery.

    Negatives: I found the vista edition less integrated with the Sony hardware than I would like. For instance, you cannot play DVDs in media center even though it has that option. Media center doesn't recognize the dvd drive. Instead you can only use WindDVD (I had to call tech support to find this out). Also, it comes with no OS DVD's you have to burn them, which would be fine if the software worked. Unfortunately there is a bug in the burning software and it does not work. (For those of you looking to burn copies of your OS, it's available through Help and Support> Backup & Recovery (And scroll to the very bottom) Launch VAIO recovery center.

    Finally, they take 20 gigs of hard drive space for a backup partition and another 20 gig for the OS which means you have less space than you might think, you are minus 40 gigs. Also it is bundled with Norton Internet Security whose firewall is so irritating it prevents you from even registering the product. I removed it immeadiatly and just installed Norton Anti-Virus.

    Overall, I'm pleased with the machine despite these issues. Its well-made and attractive. But the OS is buggy and it's not fully integrated with Sony hardware which can be a problem if you are not a person who likes to tweak the os.
