2 out of 5 stars Great hardware, terrible software.......2007-04-06

The hardware specifications for the A135-S4467 are decent, especially at this price. Unfortunately the laptop is severely hobbled by shipping with Vista. The machine just isn't fast enough and the battery isn't big enough to keep up. The drive never stops running with Vista swapping and churning away, making applications take a terribly long time to launch. Even with a second gig of RAM added, the drive remains so active and CPU use remains so high that the battery life is terribly short. Worse, the Intel graphics driver isn't very stable under Vista and graphic-intensive operations can often lock up the whole machine.

The machine would be a bargain if it were easy to "downgrade" to XP, however there are no XP drivers available from Toshiba's site. Installing XP involves researching each component and visiting more than half a dozen different manufacturer sites to find all that is needed.
