Each WS speaker shares a few common characteristics: high-quality injection-molded polypropylene cone woofers; 1-inch Teteron dome tweeters; crisp, clear, stunningly realistic sound; and a slim, richly designed speaker enclosure. The overall effect is powerful and attractive, making this a great system for anyone who wants to tease out the full audio potential of his or her flat-screen TVs.

The WS-15 offers three wall-mounting slots and gold-plated spring-type terminals.

Though the WS-100 and WS-60 speakers serve as the system's foundation, it's the WS-15 satellite speakers that help define the system's versatility. The WS-15s work as front, center, or rear channel speakers--though they're ideally suited for the rear channels--and mount on a shelf or the wall, depending on your needs. More importantly, the speakers boast a big sound thanks to the 3.5-inch cone woofers with rubber surrounds and the high-strength aluminum enclosures. As a final touch, Athena added baffles made of medium density fiberboard (MDF), which is not only sonically alert--it's a great material in which to mount transducers--but helps create a strong, resonance-free enclosure.

The speakers' high-quality 3.5-inch polypropylene woofer cones with rubber surrounds provide a long excursion and low distortion.

Of course, low and mid frequencies are only part of the Athena equation, as the speakers also come with Athena's legendary Teteron tweeters for dispersing loud, clear, and accurate highs. The tweeters' durable synthetic Teteron material is specially contoured to reduce distortion and fit into the custom-designed bezel, which amplifies and optimizes the tweeter's wide-ranging dispersion pattern. Teteron is also impervious to moisture, so it won't degrade over time, nor does it have any inherent ringing problems--unlike the tweeters built into many conventional home theater speakers. Plus, Athena uses the Teteron tweeter in all its Audition series models, making it easy to blend the WS-15s with other Athena speakers--including non-WS series models--without losing precious fidelity.

Setup is a breeze thanks to the WS-15s' built-in wall-mounting solution. Each WS-15 features a rear leg under the terminals that functions as a base when sitting on furniture. However, if you wish to wall mount the speaker, simply flip it upside down and hang it from a single nail or screw. It not only offers a slot for straight-ahead mounting, but two additional slots for mounting at an angle. You can also flip the grille to match the new speaker orientation. It's that simple.

Audio specifications range from a frequency response of 100 Hz to 20 kHz to a crossover point of 2.7 kHz to power handling of 100 watts. Finally, the WS-15s boast sturdy, easy-to-connect gold-plated spring-type terminals that work with up to 12-gauge speaker wire. Each speaker measures 4.2 by 6.7 by 4 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a five-year warranty on parts and labor.
