Ideal as a front or rear speaker in a surround sound system, the Athena Micra satellite speaker is engineered to provide serious sound quality without taking up excess space. The speaker, which is packaged individually, features a 3.5-inch cone woofer with a huge 9-ounce magnet structure and a rubber surround. The woofer cone is comprised of injection-molded polypropylene designed to stay rigid during the most extreme excursion, while still being light enough to enable accurate and tight bass response. The speaker's 0.5-inch textile tweeter, meanwhile, is based on the award-winning Teteron tweeters in the Athena Audition and SCT series. The driver produces incredibly clear and accurate high frequencies whether in two-channel or multichannel modes. The speaker is also vented to improve the bass performance.

Adding to the speaker's allure is its petite housing, which mounts discretely on a wall or ceiling via the included mounting bracket, and an alluring silver finish. The versatile bracket even adjusts horizontally, letting users point the speaker toward the listening area regardless of where it sits within the room. Alternately, users can purchase a customized stand (the MS-STB) designed to suspend the speaker at the ideal listening height.

The speaker, which offers a 100 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response, sounds crisp on its own, but is specifically engineered to match the other speakers in the Micra home theater line. Add three additional Micra satellite speakers, an MC center channel speaker, and a M225 bass-reflex subwoofer and you'll have access to full-bodied, dynamic surround sound when listening to your favorite movies and music. All the speakers in the Micra system, which boasts a recommended amp power of 20 to 100 watts, are magnetically shielded to prevent interference with your TV's picture. They also feature strong connectors with well-marked terminals, and carry a generous five-year warranty on parts and labor.
