4 out of 5 stars An interesting tale on the ancient Greek Underworld Gang.......2006-05-14

**Reveiw is slightly spoilerish!!**

When I first heard about this book, I was very excited, a there are not many books out there (fiction or non) on the ancient Greek Underworld Deities. I was also curious to learn more about Charon, and more so, how the author portrayed Hades, my favourite Greek God. On her website, it didn't look like she portrayed Hades in a wonderful light, so I was hesitant to get the book at first, but when I finally did read it, I was pleasantly surprised. I thank L. E Henderson very much for writing it. I found how she portrayed Charon very interesting and quite different to how he is perceived most of the time and different from how I see him, though I enjoyed the book very much.

I didn't like Daphne, Charon's daughter very much at all, I have to say! I thought she was boring, mediocre, bitchy, full of herself and dim-witted. I mean she's bored in the Elysian Fields, the land of peace, bliss and harmony. The land where you can have any desire your heart and soul wishes. And she just sits there. Duh ... I mean how some may perceive the Elysian Fields ... always Summer, people in white and pink frilly dresses, sipping ambrosia, always smiling ... No wonder she's bored. I'd be bored to tears of insanity if the place was like that too! But what Daphne didn't realise was that she could have had *anything* she wanted there. If she wanted a house, she could have had one exactly to her liking. If she wanted to be alone, she could have been. If she wanted to listen to the music she liked, eat all the foods she loved and not gain weight ... have her own shopping mall for Hades' sake ... it could have been created for her there in an instant. I mean the possibilities are *endless.* And for someone who considers herself intelligent, she sure wasn't the brightest lit candle! And then she goes and makes trouble and gets herself punished for it. Serves her right, silly brat! Perhaps she'll learn something in the next 3000 years?

I have always pictured Hades as being against violence and injustice, after all, he is also the God of Justice. I'm glad Hades wised up to having the wool pulled over his eyes by Marius and Phoebe. It's sweet that Hades fell in love with the mortal woman, Phoebe, though she certainly wasn't worth it, the way she treated him.

All in all it was a very good book, though I wish there had been more about Hades. Hopefully in a sequel?
