    Product Description

GILDED PRISM had its genesis in a series of articles that appeared in the last issue of Atlantis Magazine: In the Courts of Memory, which was dedicated to the remarkable Konstantinovichi Family and their legacy. Here, thanks to the guidance and assistance of publisher Arturo Beéche, we present a re-working of some of this content, with a number of very significant additions. When the former Soviet Union crumbled in 1991, a wave of nostalgia for the glittering world of the Romanovs swept through Russian imaginations. Names and places long forgotten took on a new vibrancy, and faded photographs and flickering newsreels vividly brought to life a vanished epoch. With the revival of interest in the last Imperial Family came discovery of their multitude of relatives, the Grand Dukes and Duchesses, Princes and Princesses who had enchanted and scandalized their contemporaries. The accomplishments of the Konstantinovichi Family, in particular, found resonance in this revived interest. No other single branch of the Romanov Dynasty had reached such heights, nor left such lasting legacies; even sailors in the Soviet Navy, walking down Leningrad's wide avenues in the last years of Communist rule, still sported the characteristic striped shirts introduced by Konstantin Nikolaievich in the 19th Century. GILDED PRISM is sure to become the gold-standard for research and knowledge on this previously little-known, yet immensely important branch of the Russian Imperial Family. Greg King is the author of seven internationally published works, including the United Kingdom bestseller The Duchess of Windsor (1999), and The Fate of the Romanovs (2003). His latest book is The Court of the Last Tsar. Penny Wilson, Russian historian and Romanov scholar, is the author of the critically acclaimed The Fate of the Romanovs (2003).

5 out of 5 stars The Prism Weight Loss Program.......2007-01-03

This book gave me an overview of the Prism Weight Loss program. It presents a sensible weight loss program teaching you to eat in a healthly way and make permanent lifestyle changes which helps you to lose weight a little slower than fad diets but the end result is that you keep the weight off and you actually lose inches even faster than weight. For me, it has been a lifesaving tool.

5 out of 5 stars Gave me the inspiration to begin!.......2003-10-14

This book so motivated me to try the program! It describes the program, tells real life stories, and even includes details to get you started on the program! This is the first time I'd learned not to "diet" but to make real changes in my diet! I recommend this book to everyone who asks-and this is the ONLY weight loss program I'd recommend! An added bonus is that it is even interesting to read! You won't want to put it down, and that's saying a lot for a weight loss book! Even my mom was inspired by this book! HIGHLY recommended!

5 out of 5 stars This book got me started in a new connection to food.......2003-02-05

I love the Prism program. I lost over 30 pounds and permanently
changed poor eatting habits. The oatmeal recipe in here is
the best I've ever eatten...its like tapioca!
A good place to start. Be sure to check out the Prism

    Good luck!

5 out of 5 stars First program to Stick!.......2001-12-13

Thank you so much for including this book on Amazon. I have never been able to stick with a program for more than a few days, maybe a week at the most. I always cheated on WW and would feel guilty. The Prism program asks you to make a commitment by signing a statement of resolution and you are the only one who can break that promise. I have been off sugar and white flour and "junk" for four weeks and have never felt better. I have been a supplement user for years but never found a program that encouraged their use and WW didn't fill in the badly needed nutritional gaps and the deep need for a relationship with God that fills the emotional and spiritual gaps. I have not weighed, (we are asked to give up the bathroom scale), but I have lost one pant size and 1/2 a shoe size and all of my clothes are too big now. I probably have about 30 pounds yet to true body weight.
If you would like a program that encourages you, helps you to know yourself and God better, and works without alot of nagging, then Prism is the one for you. I do not have a group yet but I am using the videos which are professional and ver informative.
Thank you and God (b)less you!

4 out of 5 stars Prism Weight Loss Program.......2001-07-31

I am entering my 13th week on Prism Weight Loss Program. This book really is inspiring while on the program and is actually part of the reason I signed up in the first place! The stories of other people losing weight are inspirational and it helps that the author, Karen Kingsbury, has also been on the program. You learn what the program is about and the book serves as a good resource for inspiration when dieting becomes a bit much and you want to reflect on why you started this in the first place knowing that diets are normally boring. This program is a good one and the book is good, I just would have liked to have seen more pictures and hope that Karen adds some additional stories when she writes a sequel as this book needs to be bigger! Thank you Karen and I do recommend this book highly.

      Book Description

The 9/11 terrorist attacks starkly recast the U.S. debate on "rogue states." In this new era of vulnerability, should the United States counter the dangers of weapons proliferation and state-sponsored terrorism by toppling regimes or by promoting change in the threatening behavior of their leaders? Regime Change examines the contrasting precedents set with Iraq and Libya and provides incisive analysis of the pressing crises with North Korea and Iran.

A successor to the author's influential Rogue States and U.S. Foreign Policy (2000), this compelling book clarifies and critiques the terms in which today's vital foreign policy and security debate is being conducted.

      Book Description

In this highly accessible book, Fred Lehr clarifies the nature and practice of clergy codependence. In twentytwo, short, insightful, and highly readable chapters, filled with many examples and stories from his own life and those of others he has counseled, Lehr identifies the typical forms codependence takes in the life and ministry of clergy: (1) the chief-enabler, the one who keeps things functioning; (2) the scapegoat, the one on whom everything's blamed when it goes wrong, the one who's responsible; (3) the hero, the example, the pure and righteous one; (4) the lost child, the one no one really knows or cares about; (5) the rescuer, the one who saves the day, makes the visit, fixes the problem, makes everything all right again; (6) the mascot, the cheerleader, the one who offers comic relief, brings down the tension level after a heated discussion.

Probably the best single source on the subject. Maybe too much concentration on codependence, although probably a huge factor.

5 out of 5 stars Clergy Burnout: Practical Wisdom for Clergy.......2006-02-05

In this little gem of a book, Rev. Lehr realistically addresses the challenges facing clergy in today's churches that can easily lead to burnout. The author openly discusses issues that often are skirted around in some congregational settings, such as congregations' tendency to expect clergy to be available 24/7 and to provide insufficient bodies to get the work done. Practical advice is provided on good self-care practices that can aid clergy in regaining balance and self-control. This book has valuable information for clergy and others who work in ministry.

5 out of 5 stars Clergy Burnout tells it like it really is! .......2005-12-14

Clergy, laity and oversight officials alike had better read this text from Dr. Fred Lehr. In over thirty years of parish, hospital chaplaincy, and office counseling work, I have not ever read or heard of such a clear and honest view of the impossible profession of parish ministry.

Dr. Lehr integrates clinical data, theory and story from himself and other ordained clergy in such a clear and concise way, it is no wonder several graduate seminaries are making Clergy Burnout required reading.

The theory section is strengthened with special references to systems theory, adiction models and Myers-Briggs type indicators, Dr. Lehr brings considerable experience in parish ministry, the special healing ministry of the Church Renewal Center into an easily read thesus on the need for healing in the role of parish ministry. All clergy will appreciate the careful and honest use Dr. Lehr makes of personal experience to illustrate the hold co-dependence makes upon the clergy.

      Book Description

This is an introductory book that examines the idea of creation in a different light. In contrast to the notion that humans are the result of creation, it explores the idea that the collective humanoid consciousness created our universe for specific purposes. The Prism of Lyra explores those purposes, and then traces several off-planet races (such as those from the Pleiades, Sirius, and Orion) through their own evolution and ties them to the evolving Earth. Highlighted is our galactic interconnectedness and our shared desire to return Home.

3 out of 5 stars interesting but not beyond.......2004-02-24

The book gives a lot of information, but without really going into it. I think that it leaves out a lot of details that are very important. It seems like bits and pieces have been glued together. In all fairness: the writers give a disclaimer: they do not claim to tell the ultimate truth and say that it is up to the reader to get out of the book what they need. This seems to be correct and fair.

In my opinion the first two (the creation) and the last two (our future goals) chapters were the most useful. However overall I would advice to read: No More Secrets, No More Lies by Patricia Cori instead.

5 out of 5 stars An incredible mind-opening, page turner........1999-09-21

Lyssa Royal, channeling the words of Germaine, Shasha and Akbar brings forth the first definitive explaination of who we are and where we are going. This book traces the history of the our star-born ancestors struggle with polarity (Service to Self vs. Service to Others) from the absolute beginning of time and the creation of all-that-is, to the present day. The Prism of Lyra, sets forth the reason why we are dealing with so much conflict during this present age and assures us that we will make the transition to the new-age. It is a magical read.

      Book Description

Prism and Lens Making: A Textbook for Optical Glassworkers, Second Edition is a unique compendium of the art and science of the optical working of glass for the production of mirrors, lenses, and prisms. Incorporating minor corrections and a foreword by Professor Walter Welford FRS, this reissue of the 1957 edition provides a wealth of technical information and hands-on guidance gained from a lifetime of experience. Although some of the techniques have been replaced by more modern methods, this classic book is still a valuable source of practical assistance as well as being a pleasure to read.

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A very detailed and comprehensive book.......2001-08-16

This book is covering nearly every aspect about optics making: Grinding, polishing: techniques, used materials. Machines: How they work. Measuring: detailed explanation of the measuring techniques for lens and prism making. Anyone who want to make his own optics, usually telescoop builders, will find everything he need to know. Not much a theoretical book - there are many - but a very practical book. Although the book was first published in 1942 most of the techniques are still the same today.

As a professional lensmaker I can recommend it to anyone interested in these techniques.

      Book Description

Two of the most vocal activists on racial issues in the church seek nothing less than a conversion of American Christianity. They directly challenge the churches to resume leadership in overcoming and redressing America's legacy of racial segregation.

Campolo and Battle expose the realities of racial division in the churches and then lift up a vision of a church without racism. To achieve reconciliation within and among the denominations, they argue, both the black and the white church need to acknowledge and overcome substantial problems in their traditions.

The authors provide a blueprint for how racially reconciled churches can encourage activism in the cities, church involvement in politics, and responsible use of the Bible, ultimately helping to transform American society itself.

Well written. Thought-provoking. But, for a historical and honest look a this topic try "Winning the Race to Unity - Is racial reconciliation really working" by Clarence Shuler. Shuler deals with the falacy appearing in the Campolo subtitle "Racial Reconciliation" arguing that you can only be reconciled to someone with whom you have had a relationship. The real problem in the Church is that we have not gone out of our way to develop relationships cross-culturally, we are trying to rebuild a bridge that never existed.

        Book Description

Every sentence we hear is instantly analyzed by an inner grammar; just as a prism refracts a beam of light, grammar divides a stream of sound, linking diverse strings of information to different domains of mind--memory, vision, emotions, intentions. In The Prism of Grammar, Tom Roeper brings the abstract principles behind modern grammar to life by exploring the astonishing intricacies of child language. Adult expressions provide endless puzzles for the child to solve. The individual child's solutions ("Don't uncomfortable the cat" is one example) may amuse adults but they also reveal the complexity of language and the challenges of mastering it. The tiniest utterances, says Roeper, reflect the whole mind and engage the child's free will and sense of dignity.

He offers numerous and novel "explorations"--many at the cutting edge of current work--that anyone can try, even in conversation around the dinner table. They elicit how the child confronts "recursion"--the heartbeat of grammar--through endless possessives ("John's mother's friend's car"), mysterious plurals, contradictory adjectives, the marvels of ellipsis, and the deep obscurity of reference ("there it is, right here"). They are not tests of skill; they are tools for discovery and delight, not diagnosis. Each chapter on acquisition begins with a commonsense look at how structures work--moving from the simple to the complex--and then turns to the literary and human dimensions of grammar. One important human dimension is the role of dialect in society and in the lives of children. Roeper devotes three chapters to the structure of African-American English and the challenge of responding to linguistic prejudice.

Written in a lively style, accessible and gently provocative, The Prism of Grammar is for parents and teachers as well as students--for everyone who wants to understand how children gain and use language--and anyone interested in the social, philosophical, and ethical implications of how we see the growing mind emerge.

        5 out of 5 stars terrific.......2007-01-09

My niece came to visit me over Thanksgiving and she had two coloring books that belonged to her mother (about 30 years ago!). They were designs by Ruth Heller. My daughter loved them and so did my nephew and son. I immediately got online and found more and ordered them for all four and they love them.

2 out of 5 stars this coloring book... i would say is a "no"..........2006-11-28

Yes, all the designs look like copies. To be more specific, take the design you see on the cover or an excerpt from the inside, and the shape, the outermost outline, is the same for every picture. Except maybe sometimes the 4 mini hexagons are triangles. Besides that, every picture is the same thing, with different triangles on the inside.

Overall, the quality and the designs aren't bad at all, the only bad thing is that they are SO REPETETIVE!

3 out of 5 stars Deja Vu anyone? Many too simplistic..........2002-10-22

I know there are only so many things that can be done with a prism, but still...there are other designs that could be combined with prisms to add more interest, challenge and fun. Each page looked like a copy of the one before it, with maybe a new angle or a bigger set of triangles. In the back of the book, there are 3 of 4 very advanced designs that I wish had been made into a whole book of like designs. If you're just starting out and don't mind repeating the same "look", then you may like it. I gave my brand new one to a friend instead. I recommend Power Mandala's instead, for variety, complexity and challenging fun.
