Editorial Reviews
Marke Andrews, The Vancouver Sun
The band has a balanced sound, with no one individual hogging the spotlight. Hepner at times resembles Pat Martino, playing with a fluidity of ideas and a dexterous touch.
Product Description
The songs here run from soulful to swingin'. The opening track "April Dancer," in impressionistic in design: "Decoy Date" is a wispy waltz with a twist; "Elwood" is a gospel feel in tribute to the character of Elwood Blues and reminiscent of the Saturday Night Live vibe; "Sparks and Elements," a reflecton on the music of Herbie Hancock; "Drums Stop Bad," and old musician's punch line set to a super groove with a wink to the tv theme from "Wild Kingdom." "To Old Friends," a ballad like those of Wayne Shorter - yearning; "Face to Face," an upbeat samba, "Place de Vosges," a stroll through a Parisian park; "Chino the Cat (is supreme)" a bouncing blues.
