About the Artist
The Salt Brothers is a New York City based band, led by what can only be described as "two new stars on the horizon" - guitarist Coleman Mellett and trumpeter Jeff McSpadden. Together, they have forged their sound from a wide array of musical influences. From jazz to funk, latin to R&B and back again, these two lack nothing in their abilities to groove.
Guitarist, composer, and lyricist Coleman Mellett hails from Maryland, and at the age of 25 is on his way to being one of the most sought-after musicians in the country. He has played on stages around the globe, appearing with such luminaries as Joe Williams, Kenny Burrell, and Frank Wess. Presently, Coleman is guitarist with legendary trumpeter Chuck Mangione, and has traveled with him nationally and internationally. Mellett's soulful brand of playing and writing has a maturity and warmth that's way beyond his years.
Trumpeter, composer, and arranger Jeff McSpadden has been making fans all across the country. First, at the age of 20, blowing his trumpet with The Flying Neutrinos, then later in a two year stint with the New York swing band, The Delegates. Upon moving to New York, from his home in Dallas, Texas, Jeff attended The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music Program where he formed a Duke Ellington repetoire band, compiled the music, and hosted a two day concert in Ellington's honor. He graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in music performance.
Jeff and Coleman have come together, bringing every ounce of their skills and experience, to form The Salt Brothers. Their debut CD "The Right Move" has masterfully encompassed their musical influences and finds them grooving on their common, and wide-ranging musical ground. And from that ground they are most definitely ready to take off.
