Product Description
This is the new cd from "Verlet". Although he is a bassist, this is not necessarily a bass album. It is an eclectic funky smooth jazz album. Because he considers himself a musician first, he has created an extremely musical piece of work. He takes you on a different journey by playing on keys, classical guitar, singing and scat-soloing (ala George Benson) using the 6 string bass to the point that you will not believe what you're hearing is actually a bass guitar. That is to say, he not only plays the instrument in the traditional supportive role, he also plays it in a lead role that sounds like a guitar but distinctly different. Verlet plays over the elements of Contemporary jazz, Funk, Bossa Nova, Reggae and West Indian music blending it all into a plethora of both vocal and instrumental original compositions that he wrote, produced and arranged. With the accompaniment of some very talented back up vocalists, the songs elevate you to another level. On another track he also features the dynamic playing of renowned keyboardist, Mr.Lonnie Evans. As for you bass enthusiasts, let it be noted that although on every track you are reminded of the mastery command Verlet has over his instrument, there is one track in particular that contains a melodic solo piece. It is his variation of a tune done by friend Victor Wooten. Using only his Fodera 4 string bass and no overdubs, it is loaded with slapping, tapping, double thumping, playing chords and soloing while effortlessly weaving through some Bach, Mozart and several classic pieces.

This album truly moves you with some beautifully different music. A must have for your cd collection.
