About the Artist
Since their inception in 1988, New Stories has divided it's time between performing as a trio and as the backup group to some of the greatest names in jazz. With bebop legend Don Lanphere, they've been doing concerts, recordings and clinics around the U.S. for the last 8 years. A Grammy nominated album is the culmination of a 6 year relationship with singer Mark Murphy & for 3 years they've worked the Northwest and beyond with sax great Ernie Watts. They regularly perform at all of the top NW clubs and festivals including appearances with Tom Harrell, Slide Hampton, Jon Faddis, Bobby Shew, Julian Priester, Buddy DeFranco & many others. Recent & upcoming projects include: recording the works of unsung bebop hero Elmo Hope at Rudy Van Gelder's NY Studios for producer Don Sickler; album with Toshiko Akiyoshi Big Band trombonist Scott Whitfield (produced by Don Sickler); upcoming album with Tito Puente horn players Ray Vega & Bobby Porcelli; European Festival tour with !
