About the Artist
Influenced by such great Broadway and Tin Pan Alley songwriters as Rodgers and Hart, Cole Porter, Frank Loesser, George Gershwin and Irving Berlin, Bob Schoen has written the music and lyrics for dozens of songs. Some were composed specifically for the musical theater, and others for his own small musical group, which performs regularly in the San Francisco Bay Area.

A native of New York, Schoen lives in Oakland, California. He is a graduate of Boston University, Laney College, and the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to composing and performing, Schoen is a doctor of optometry. His professional practice is located in Berkeley, California.

"A Song is Like a Child" introduces Composer/Lyricist Bob Schoen to music lovers with 11 of his songs, ranging from the funny "Mr. Right" (about a woman looking for the perfect mate but finding only Mr. Goodwrench, Mr. Potato Head and other assorted "Misters") to the tender "One Year at a Time," a beautiful ballad reminiscent of the work of the wonderful songwriters of the 1940's. Schoen's work is presented by two sensitive and talented singers as well as world class musicians such as internationally known saxophonist Larry Schneider (who has appeared on recordings with pianist Bill Evans as well as many under his own name) and pianist Mark Little (former accompanist to singer Cleo Laine).

This CD features swing tunes, ballads, bossas, a waltz and Schoen's tender "Every Year at Christmas."
