About the Artist
Composer/pianist Richard Carr, native of St. Louis, Missouri, currently residing in the French Quarter of New Orleans, has been performing 4-7 nights a week exclusively in the New Orleans area for the past five years.
With his first three releases, Through the Minds Eye, Fogland, and An American Quixote, Richard introduced his unique blend of classical music, jazz, and pop resulting in a romantic new age/contemporary piano style that is soothing to the soul, mind and body. Releasing When Soul & Heart Collide and Christmas Fireside simultaneously in October 2000, Richard gave his listeners some new compositions and his own interpretations of some of the holiday favorites. It also showcased the further development of Carrs unique improvisational style of composition. Christmas Fireside debuted in the New Age Voice Radio 100 at #4 in December 2000. When Soul & Heart Collide debuted at #71 in November 2000 and remained in the charts through May 2001, spending 3 months in the top ten peaking at #4 in February. Carrs improvisational composition style is full of melodic lines and rich harmonies indicative of the classical influences of the American, Russian and French composers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Additionally, more modern influences as diverse as Mannheim Steamroller, Tangerine Dream, John Adams, Keith Jarrett, Cole Porter, Steve Reich, George Winston, and George Gershwin are also evident. An American Quixote, released August 6, 1999, explored the vision of Cervantes Don Quixote through the eyes of a twentieth century American. It reached #31 in the New Age Voice Radio Top 100 chart. An American Quixote was 1st Runner-up for the New Age Album of the Year for the Just Plain Folks Music Awards 2000. The title track, An American Quixote, was 1st Runner-up for the Instrumental Song of the Year for the Just Plain Folks Music Awards 2000. Carrs first two releases Through the Minds Eye (released 12/97) and Fogland, (released 10/98) garnered national radio attention reaching #96 and #18 respectively on the New Age Voice Radio 100.
