SPARROW a life of music.... Bradley Parker-Sparrow Composer/Pianist/Recording Engineer *Pianist, composer, recording engineer, record producer, writer, real estate company owner/partner and general contractor/construction. *Partner in Sparrow Sound Design Recording Studio, Southport Records, Northport Records and Real Buildings Real Estate and Construction Company. *Born in Chicago in 1954, self taught in all disciplines. *As a pianist/composer, held the position of composer-in-residence for The City Of Chicago in 1979 and 1980. *Founded Sparrow Sound Design Recording Studio and Production Facility in 1977. *As an engineer and/or producer, recorded over 200 album projects including: The Leaders, The Art Ensemble Of Chicago, Von Freeman, Little Milton, Yusef Lateef, Willie Pickens, Bob Dorough, Big Moose Walker, Richie Cole and The Mighty Blue Kings, George Freeman, Tatsu Aoki, Marachi Favors, Francis Wong, Erwin Helfer, Don Moye, Bobby lewis, Howard Levy, Fareed Haque, Geoffrey Douglas Madge, George Flynn, Audrey Morris, Johnny Frigo and King Fleming.

As a partner of the Chicago based SOUTHPORT records, Sparrow has produced 90 album projects that exist within the label catalog. The first release was Sparrow - LATIN BLACK, his first album as a leader in 1979.

As a pianist-composer Sparrow's compositions appear on 9 of his recordings (Latin Black, AM/FM, Inside/Out, The Desert Rat Suite, and Solo Sparrow) and over 20 for other artists. He has scored 4 feature length films and composed ballets for Joseph Holmes and MoMing. Performances include The Chicago Jazz Festival, ChicagoFest, Taste of Chicago, The Bop Shop, The Green Mill, The Asian American Jazz Festival in San Francisco and Duke University.

As a writer Sparrow's articles and reviews have appeared in Down Beat, CD Review and Film Score Monthly. He has written 3 full length plays, 2 screenplays and lyrics for over 100 songs. His one act play "The Silence" was performed and premiered at Navy Pier in 1985. His 3-act play "The Bar" received a full reading at Victory Gardens Theatre.

In the area of building construction Sparrow was general contractor and carpenter in the building of the new Sparrow Sound Design recording complex in 1983. All 7 units in the turn of the century building were restored and physically corrected to code (in Lakeview, Chicago). Most recently the restoration of a late Victorian 2-flat was completed by his company, REAL BUILDINGS. Label founders Sparrow and Joanie Pallatto return to the air with “we are not machines.” What began as the film score for John Covert’s new thriller “Watch” melded into a musical/social commentary on the current state of the modern music industry. This is not jazz. This is not pop. This is SPARROWMUSIC.

In a world that grows more insensitive to the creative human needs of both the artist and the general public, Sparrow envisions a world that has become a musical battlefield. The blood that feeds the music of the machine is electricity, and as machines take over our common functions, they begin to hinder humanity and creativity.

This CD features tracks that can be played on the radio! Track 2, “Before The Voice” features Joanie Pallatto singing a modern anthem to the senselessness of war. Track 7 and 24 “Cut Off The Head Of Eminem And Stick It Up His Butt!” features Sparrow on vocals daring Eminem to come to Chicago so that he can meet Sparrow’s posse. Track 7 you can NOT play, it has bad words, track 24 is the PG-REMIX version… Sparrow’s original experiments and compositions fuse acoustic piano with various machines, keyboards and loops throughout the CD.

Label co-founder and artist Joanie Pallatto is the voice of machine. Refusing to be cast as a jazz or pop singer, she re-invents the need to improvise with emotion and precise intonation. Veteran Chicago writer and radio man Rick Kogan makes his musical debut with beat poetry on Track10, “Little John.” Trumpet veteran Billy Brimfield spits fire on Track 12, “Before The Time.” Also featured is Larry Gray on Bass and Cello, Acoustic Bass visionary Tatsu Aoki and the electric rockin’ bass of John E. Magnan along with drummer-percussion legend Alejo Poveda.

In 1979 Southport began with Sparrow’s “Latin Black” S-SSD 0001… now approaching 2002 is release S-SSD 0093, “We Are Not Machines.”
