About the Artist
In a video-history titled The "Al Tinney Project" produced by James Patrick in June 1995, Max Roach attested to the signficance of Al Tinney and the fact that in the early 1940's Tinney was further advanced than bebop innovators' Charlie Parker and Bud Powell. "When we were working at Monroe's uptown house, Bud was on the scene, but he wasn't the dominant force that Allen was. He [Tinney] was the piano [player] of note during that time. He was a very important person in there - and even more important than Charlie Parker and Victor Coulsen in that band." Tinney was hired around 1939 and was the leader of these seesions until 1943.
Product Description
"This album is recorded live in a Buffalo supper club where Tinney and Farrell are regulars...the instrumental tracks are all very good with nice piano from Tinney, excellent bass playing from Adeyola and outstading dumming from Marino..." B.Crowther Jazz Journal
This is a rare recording of master jazz pianist Al Tinney who was a major force in the early days of bebop. After WWII Al settled in Buffalo. He has worked continuously in the clubs there and been the subject of several documentary works.
