From Jazziz
"There was a time when I didn't even like organ jazz that much," says guitarist John Stein, leader of the John Stein Trio, an ensemble that centers around the Hammond B-3. "But then something happened, and for a period of time, I went the other way and that was all I wanted to listen to. I can't tell you the money I've dropped in record stores purchasing organ-jazz albums." For its new recording, Green Street (A-Records), the trio, completed by organist Ken Clark and drummer Dave Hurst, tackles 10 originals. They are assisted on four cuts by David "Fathead" Newman, a saxophonist who's no stranger to soul-jazz himself.
