'TIL FURTHER NOTICE offers instrumental music performed by a piano trio playing jazz. The instruments are piano (acoustic), bass (acoustic), and drums. No electronic instruments or engineering overdubs are utilized. The music represents jazz from Honolulu performed by residents from the local music scene. The material includes standards such as Rich's solo version of "My Foolish Things", rarely recorded jewels of jazz such as Freddie Hubbard's straight-ahead "Gibraltar" and Bobby Timmons' funky "This Here" in 3/4 time (maybe better remembered as "Dis 'Hea"). The brisk "Zaius" and warm "Tomorrow Is Another Day" are two compositions by late pianist Eddie Russ, who inspired Rich during his early years listening to Russ in Michigan. "Song for Sina" is a lovely ballad written by Rich's friend, Hawaiian guitarist and composer Sam Ahia from the island of Maui. Rich offers two of his own compositions in the fusion-like "Samson and Delilah" and samba-style "Night Cruise", which seems the favorite choice by radio stations for airplay. Finally, Crandall explores various blues stylings and shadings in "DaBluz". The trio provides a warm and vibrant sound which explores various "grooves" and tempos...a fine expression of "aloha" jazz-style from Honolulu.
