"This powerful work of art could be called a tone poem..."
Product Description
Continuing its focus on the production of new music, SOUTHPORT Records is proud to announce its 47th album project, pianist/composer and arranger Scott Holman - "DON'T WAKE THE KIDS". Cast in a 20th century style of jazz composition and improvisation, this CD is held together by both a spiritual and musical marriage. Like the soft voices of children in the night, Scott Holman weaves a spell that paints images of poetic beauty, youth and innocence. Scott Holman's brand of jazz is elegant, thought-provoking and accessible.
The musical concept of the composer/pianist is further embellished by the use of a fine Chicago trio that includes Rusty Jones on drums and Pawel Jarzebski on acoustic bass.
"NOBLE ONE", track #3, showcases strong melodic elements that unfold into a feeling of serenity. "HIS CHILDREN DANCE", track #5 is a bluesy, fun-spirited theme that could easily be transformed into a TV or movie title track. The quiet innocence of #6, "THE THOUGHT", presents Holman's controlled touch at the piano in this solo piece, with a mature polish and human beauty that shows traces of Billy Taylor, Bill Evans, Ahmad Jamal and McCoy Tyner. Track #9, "THE SMILE", is whimsical and upbeat, while maintaining the "rules" of "Don't Wake The Kids".
