About the Artist
Rick Overton is native of New York who currently lives in Japan where he is one of the first to create a Jazz program at a music college in Japan. He is a graduate of both Berklee College of Music in Boston and Shenandoah Conservatory in Virginia. He is an assistant professor of Trumpet and Jazz Improvisation and performs with his group, The Rick Overton Unit, at area jazz clubs, events and concert halls. He has performed and/or been associated with Branford Marsalis, The Empire Brass Quintet, Cyrus Chestnut, Mark Whitfield, Teo Macero, Donald Harrison, Seleno Clark, The Temptations, among many others. Made in the cool jazz idiom, Urbanesque features Rick Overton on trumpet, Bruce Stark on piano, Shinobu Sato on bass and Tommy Campbell on drums.
