About the Artist
The Boston based Buck Dewey Big Band began in 1997. Two albums and hundreds of live shows later, this high-energy group of five is riding high for the people. Come see the Buck Dewey Big Band take the reins as the past becomes the future and the future becomes the present.

The Buck Dewey Big Band formed in 1997 around the strange blues and hip hop album, ‘I Am the Spider’, by Jimmy Fox. It features Chris Barrett on trumpet and keys, and Matt Myers on drums and vocals. Bass player Daigo Fujiwara and singing bone-man Rob O’Dwyer were later acquired to translate the ‘Spider ’ live.

A synergy occurred that pulled the works of Myers’ own 4 song EP the ‘Buck Dewey Song Book’ into the set, and started a frenzy of songwriting collaboration that spawned both the debut album, ‘Friday Night Chicken Waltz ’ and the latest release ‘War Bonnet Love Sonnet ’.

‘Friday Night Chicken Waltz ’ was released in July of 1998 and received national recognition on college radio charting in the Top 20 in most of the eastern States. The album was also A&R pick of the week at CMJ, garnered band of the day on Rolling Stone.com, and received international attention as most down loaded on FranceMP3.com. Steve Morse of the Boston Globe lauded the bands’ sound as ’Salvation Army music on acid’, and the band was invited to interpret the theme song for ESPN2’s Winter X Games in Colorado in 1999.

After an East Coast tour in support of ‘Chicken Waltz ’ the Buck Dewey Big Band returned to Boston to open an WFNX show with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at Avalon. Work also began on the follow-up album at Sound Station 7 in Providence. At this time bassist Daigo Fujiwara decided to opt for the quiet life, and the search began for a new bass player. In a short time the curious Bulgarian oboe and double-bass player, Plamen Jetchev, stepped up to help finish the ‘War Bonnet ’ album, and has since become an integral part of the Buck Dewey Big Band.

Releasing ‘War Bonnet Love Sonnet ’ in the fall of 2001, The Buck Dewey Big Band then embarked on another east coast tour, which this time included stops in Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia to name a few. Leaving no stone unturned, the Buck Deweys continued their tradition of free shows, playing the streets of most cities their tour stopped in.

Returning to Boston for the Buck Dewey Big Band CD-Release at the MiddleEast; the all night event featured a special appearance by Patti Smith, as well as Boston Music Award Winners Seks Bomba, and international punk gods Bradshaw. Thanks everyone for a great night!

Not known for resting on their laurels, the Buck Dewey Big Band's future looks busy. With a new CD to promote and fans clamoring for more shows, the band plans to be on the road for most of 2002.

Product Description
‘War Bonnet Love Sonnet ’ marks a milestone on the journey of musical exploration for this band. Synthesizing a broad array of influences into an aural parade, this album celebrates both unity and diversity as it propels the Buck Dewey Big Band on their quest for international success.
