About the Artist
Mat Britain has pursued his love of percussion from the plains of Kansas to the island of Trinidad where he performed with the Amoco Renegades Steel Band at the prestigious Panorama Festival. Living in Nashville, Tennessee, he leads his popular steel band, Deep Grooves, and is active in the recording industry. From 1996 to 1999, Britain was percussionist with Grammy Award winning Country/Pop artist Lee Greenwood. Britain is a proud endorser and clinician for Pearl Percussion, Panyard Inc., Zildjian Cymbals, Innovative Mallets, and XL Protechtor Cases.
Dan Moore followed his dream of being a percussionist from the big state of Texas to the Big Ten University of Iowa where he is a professor of music and Percussion Area Head. His performance energies focus on his brainchild, the MIDI-marimba, a unique setup that he developed to augment the acoustic sounds of the marimba with electronically-triggered sounds. Moore is a national performing artist for the Yamaha Corporation of America, Innovative Percussion, and Sabian Ltd., and an endorsee for The Latin Percussion Music Group (LP).
Product Description
Begin with the shimmering, sharp tones of steel pans and an electronically souped-up marimba; mix in jazz, Calypso, Latin, African, and Asian musical influences; add sizeable helpings of rhythms, musical quotes, licks, stories, and soundbytes; season with an A-to-Z collection of acoustic and electronic percussion instruments; and voilà!you have the newest release from planetary percussionists Mat Britain and Dan Moore.
Little World of Rhythm is another tour de force recording for The Britain/Moore Duo, who have been performing the "BMD" brand of percussion for more than fifteen years.
Little World features the BMDs original compositions and a few of their quirky renditions of jazz standards. Although it may sound as if there are more than two musicians on this CD, Britain and Moore perform alone with two notable exceptions: Jam Masta G provides a rap recitation on the Miles Davis classic So What, and jazz luminary Matt Wilson sits in on drumset on the imperative Thelonius Monk standard Well You Neednt.
