About the Artist
Who is this N-Side? I never heard of him.
He is Norman A. Woods aka N-Side,the blessed one. A performing jazz/poet, screenwriter and music publisher from the San Francisco bay area. A native of Berkeley, California, he has always had an aspiration to be an artist of some description and has always supported the arts in some way, emotionally, financially and resourcefully. Some say he has seen it all. from Jimi Hendrix plays Berkeley to the Silicon Valley explosion.
In his own words, he would say "Seen a lot, heard a lot. Done a lot, had fun a lot and everything in between! You can believe that!
From Vietnam anti-war protest to rainy days of homelessness, trust him when he says he has a story to tell and has always found a way to smile through "Hard Times on Planet Earth" his latest CD on Shalamar Records/Three Alexander Music(BMI)
"We are not tainted by greed, jaded with frustration, derived from bad deal chills. Poetry and music is the language spoken here. No time for trickery, that's a fact.
Sharing of truth told from N-Side, feelin 10 times blessed. Hey Si Perkoff! you got my back? (from the poem "the tribe".
Product Description
N-Side's style is what he refers to as "reflective poetry" backed with smooth and up tempo free jazz grooves. His trio consist of veteran jazz artist Si Perkoff, piano Peter Magadini, Drums and Kash Killion, bass. The N-Side sound creates a voice in the tradition of one of his favorite poets Langston Hughes, accompanied with a love of jazz in the background. Lyrical styles influenced by Gil-Scott Heron, Langston Hughes, Kamau Da'aood and the list goes on. The N-side sound was also built on the philosophy that" The best place to find a good pair of hands is to look down at the end of your arms". With that in mind, and hard work, he brings you a beautiful example of the symbiotic relationship between poetry and jazz music.
