Before smooth jazz, there was fusion. Although Short Denim Skirts was released in 1994, most of the material was written in 1989/1990. This was the pivitol point for what is now known today as smooth jazz. The album swings from avant-garde funk to Big Band blues to conceptual jazz a la Weather Report with a dash of Latin trio music.
