Editorial Reviews
From the Artist
This CD was recorded pretty much live at Pat and Karen Samples Paradise Sound Studio in Index, Washington on the Skykomish River, at the very foot of the north face of Index Mountain. A Ruby for Magic was produced by Vic Norman, engineered by David LaBarre and Pat Sample and mastered by Bob Katz.
Product Description
This is the third CD released by the Rane Nogales Jazz Quartet and is a tasteful cimpliation of jazz standards mixed in with a few more contemporary tunes like The More I See You, Moondance and Our Day Will Come. The early reviews are favorable. Here is the first of them from Lyle Hanson writer for the Lynden Eagle "Rane Nogales has a poignant, sensitive..bluesy voice
sultry on cue. ..very much, her own stylist. At times, mellow, romantic, passionate -- her rendition of "Mood Indigo" takes the listener on a magic carpet ride through his/her own emotional "down" times. The singer leaves ample space for the instrumentalists to stretch out ..Jeff Johnson truly makes his bass sing during solos, while Blake Angelos, ..shows remarkable intonation and timing. More subtle than out front, Byron Vannoy, drummer, sets and maintains the pace. Listening to this quartet, one can readily sense the negotiation happening, the art creating and the whole group having fun. If you like jazz vocals with a touch of blues, "A Ruby for Magic" is something special you should have in your home jazz library."
