From the Label
Dizzy Gillespie, along with Charlie Parker and Thelonius Monk, transformed the great American art form of jazz into the highly personal, physical, and frenetic form of music called be-bop. This compilation follows be-bop in its formative years, with tracks taken from sessions recorded in 1945 to selections from Gillespie's expansive and perceptive string album of 1952. The vocal stylings of Alice Roberts and Dizzy himself and the solo flights by Dizz, Miles, and Bird are immediately recognizable as the lustful inspiration for the beat poets.
