About the Artist
Jess Mills is a pianist/vocalist/composer at home in a wide variety of genres, from Classical to Jazz to Rock'n'Roll, and has performed music from Rachmaninoff to Count Basie, and also Elton John and Billy Joel. This album is his first foray into recording Jazz arrangements that he has written.
The Usual Suspects Jazz Combo consists of players from around Texas that Jess Mills assembled for the purpose of making this recording. Every one is an expert in his field.
Product Description
An album of mostly original Jazz tunes, with a few standards thrown in for good measure. Though mostly love songs, there are a few moments of humor, such as the wild rendition of "Chopsticks," and the whimsical "Ja-Da."
The instrumentation varies greatly from song to song, with two "Big Band" charts, a piano solo, a piano/vocal track, and everything combination in between.
Listeners who enjoy the sounds of Harry Connick, Jr. and Diana Krall should find this recording appealing.
