DAVE GORDON
FAUX REAL (S-SSD 0099)
Pianist/composer/producer and engineer Dave Gordon is a veteran Southport Records artist with the release of "Faux Real," his fourth opus as a leader. Gordons music is a mirror to the evolution of modern jazz, electronic/pop/fusion and original contemporary sound. His music has evolved from roots firmly imbedded in the soul-tinged work of Bobby Timmons and Herbie Hancock, yet ever evolving, like a newly spawned breed of exotic Chicago plant.
Gordon, another alumnus of The Berklee College of Music, class of 1979, has been a constant collaborator with Chicago reed ace Brian Gephart. In fact, Brian played on Gordons first Southport black vinyl release (S-SSD 0002!) "Bagel O Fun." "Faux Real" and its concept has been smoldering in the brain of Gordon for several years. Dave likes that "live," direct to stereo sound, despite the use of many electronic systems to propel the music.
Like a fat alley cat, Track 1, "X20" leaps from the urban landscape, with horns like sheets of ice. Track 3, "8 Ball Blues," one of several solo piano sides, displays humor and technique. "Refunk Waltz," Track 10, is a perfect vehicle for the soulful voice of famed Chicago vocalist Suzanne Palmer. Gordon has an impressive cast of Chicago players that de: Brian Gephart, Dave Zielinski, Robert Shy, Anthony Brock, Alejo Poveda, Rick Vitek, Brian Sandstrom, Jack Gallagher and more!
